Last time for myself was June of last year. Gunnar will only do sales through a bike shop even though I knew exactly what I wanted to order. I did have them ass the headset though. Apparently this does not count though.
Purchasing a new bike was 1995 for my soon to be wife, a Specialized Crossroads that has since go on to my MIL.

February 1977. I'd shopped all over Toronto for a month, and finally bought from Bicyclesport, the only shop that made frames on site. I had not been able to find anything with similar components under $500, and this one was $400 even including built-in fenders, carriers, and lighting, like a moped. This spring, after over 100,000 miles, I finally saw why it was cheap, and I had to lean to one side to ride no hands. It was built with pinned lugs, not jigged, and the fork crown was drilled far off plumb to compensate.

I last purchased a new bike from a bike shop for myself about 6 months ago...but I do happen to work at the bike shop in question.
Couldn't resist the right price on a modern Cromor-tubed flat-bar commuter with hydro discs for our rainy winters here in Vancouver, BC.
Before that? Never. My dad purchased the only other bikes I have ridden that were purchased new from a bike shop for me...last one probably 1993 or '94.

1996. A Schwinn Cruiser Deluxe. First and only bicycle I ever bought for myself in a bike shop. I was 40 years old at the time. Best bike purchase I ever made. I still love the bike, which I had converted to a 7-speed IGH several years after I bought it.

Last new one was in 1996 for a brand new Bianchi Trofeo. Last one from a shop was 208 and a 1984 Gitane Sprint that started me down this C&V road

2009 Scott P1 Sportster. Did no more than 300km's because the ride at the rear was so harsh "had major spinal issues at the time" then bought a JBC carbon frame and swapped all the parts to build my ultimate hybrid. I still have the Scott frame and fork in basically new condition.

The one and only new bike I bought for myself In a shop was a Viscount in Austin in 1976 or so. I’ve bought well over 100 bikes and frames over the years but that was the only new one. I bought one used from an LBS in Columbia SC but all the others have been from yard sales, thrift stores, swap meets, Craigslist, online or given to me.
