Correct Shifter and Brake Cables for 1999 Shimano XTR?

Hi all,

This is likely a dumb question but I'm trying to figure out what the right shifter and brake cables would be for a 1999 Shimano XTR groupset. This is on a Gary Fisher hardtail. I'm just not clear on if cable dimensions have changed at all in the past 20 years or if there are preferred brands from which to buy.

Any suggestions are very welcome!

Dimensions have not changed.
Any Shimano compatible shifter cable.
Shimano compatible "mountain" (as opposed to "road") brake cable. Some cables have one end for "mountain" brakes and the other end for "road" brakes, you cut off the one you do not need before installation.
There are different quality levels of cables and housing, I suspect any decent one will work with 9 speed shifting and V-brakes - for example, Shimano or Jagwire.
You can try some compressionless housing like Yokozuna Reaction or Jagwire Ultimate/Pro for braking.

Nothing has changed. Get a Shimano or Jagwire MTB set, with the housing. I always change both at once, as the Jagwire works as a set.
