Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah ... Rowan was around when it happened and they had the memorial earlier this year.

When we first moved here we lived in a place on the Eastern shore and I walked home sometimes, over the bridge. They've got a system in place where if a large ship comes along, they shut down the bridge until it passes ... and they have warnings up for cyclists and walkers, but I discovered that if the warning goes off after a pedestrian passes the warning lights etc. that pedestrian will end up standing in the middle of the bridge all alone and wondering where all the traffic went. First time that happened was a bit startling!

That is SO cool! I used to love walking on the old abandoned elevated Westside Hwy in NYC in the late 70's.....but that bridge takes the cake. Haha....can just imagine just walking along....and suddenly, silence...and it occurs to you that you haven't seen one car in a while..... Awesome! Like something out of The Twilight Zone!

What kind of cycling enthusiast notices "love locks" on a bridge without taking any notice of a fantastic Bianchi parked on said bridge? The world's going to pot.

Off-topic: IthaDan, you're in Ithaca? My sister lives there. Wanna buy a cool Bianchi?
