1971 Peugeot PR-10

Well, it took awhile, but it's finally done. I bought this in rough shape, locally, back in February. I got started on during the winter, then spring came around and been riding all season. Now that it's cold and with some vacation time, it's done.

After stripping it down to a bare frame and removing the fork, cleaning and polishing the frame several times, polishing every chrome and aluminum part, repacking headset and bottom bracket (thanks to a member here that loaned me the Stronglight extractor), replacing derailleurs and shifters with correct Simplex pieces, replacing brake levers,

(thanks to other members for the sales and a donation of the rear), cleaning and polishing the rims/hubs, adding some nice used tubulars, and adding a new chain, cables, and tape, it's done! Some before and after pictures.

This was the first 10 speed bike I ever had as young man. I bought this one for the memories to add to my little collection. I wish it were a PX-10 after all the elbow grease!

Lovely work! And as an aside, I just brought home a PR-10 this morning. :-) (The previous owner added the 531 stickers to the forks, but they do not belong and I will remove them.)

Good looking job. I have a mid 70s PR 10. It's a fine riding bike.

Nice work on the overhaul. I might have been inclined to keep the bar end shifters, but I know they weren't original to the bike. I have a PR10, maybe a 75?

Outstanding job on the restoration! One possible future change would be to swap out the plastic Simplex Prestige shift levers for the black, hooded Criterium set. The Prestiges are very flexible and reduce the accuracy of the shifts. I found the Criteriums smoother as well. Check out the look on Roger M's green PR 10.

mid 70s PR 10

This is my mid 70s PR 10. These bikes were real work horses. I picked this up as a frame with HS and BB and built it up. The parts are more or less period correct (some more, some less,

What kind of handlebars are on that last one? They have a nice curve on the flats.

It's a Pivo randonneur bar that was a take off from a Gitane TdF that passed through my workshop.

The nitto randonneur is a pretty good match. The origin 8 stem often works on a french bike and if not you just need to sand a bit off so it will.

Thanks for the tip - this bike won't be ridden, it's too big for me. It will be displayed with my other vintage road bikes and Schwinn Stingray collection. I do ride vintage Masi and Colnago bikes.

Gorgeous bike! The green is stunning, Roger.

I bought my PR 10 from a fellow who had known the bike since new. He said the original owner bought the bike with the Barcons as a swapout. I much prefer Barcons so I will keep them.

Nice job on the restoration. I'm a barcon guy too, and I recently acquired a '78 PR10. I immediately grabbed a net of Suntour barcons off the 'bay. Funny, I'm enjoying the down tube shifters on the Pug, so I never got around to installing the barcons. I ride in a lot of club group rides, and have no trouble keeping up with the modern carbon, but the DTs are kind of a pain in heavy traffic. Here's mine.

As bought, missing FD, Stronglight TS crank had issues, funky brake levers.

Added missing FD (Shimano Exage), changed to Sugino 52/34 crank, Campy aero levers.

Great thread! I really liked my PKN-10 (1980 version of PR-10), but it was just a bit too tall and too long for me. Fortunately, my elder son is 3" taller than I am, and now he enjoys it.

Very nice. You can safely move the dt shifters toward the front of the bike by a few inches.
