Chris King BB

I've done my research, and verified all the compatibility I need to, and I've settled on getting a Chris King bottom bracket to replace my FSA Mega Exo. What I'm trying to determine though, is whether to pump out the extra $70 for ceramic or not.

I know going from my existing, poor quality and very worn BB to Chris King is going to be huge, but I'm still curious about the next step up. Worth it, or beyond the point of diminishing returns?

I've had ceramic BBs. I would not get one again. Quality steel bearings spin as well as far as tell, and last longer.

Chris King is not a bearing making company, it makes things with bearings in it.

A Dura Ace BB with steel bearings is more than sufficient. But then again, I blew a few pretty dollars on a R45 rear hub, so i'll step off of the soap box now while i go board up my glass house.

According to Chris King, this is incorrect. From their website: "It all starts with the bearings. We make our own bearings in-house..."

Personally, I would not. But I have had a set of gore ride-on cables before. So, to each his own.

On second thought. Get them and give us a full write up.

I'm probably going to stick with the standard one, and be happy with that. I've generally heard that the returns for ceramics are minimal at best.

You'll never get out of the 3's with steel bearings.

Guaranteed. That's how it worked for me. Mostly cause my new bike came with them. Then when they were done I replaced them with steel and now it looks like I'm doomed to life as a perma-3.

Good thing ceramic bearings didn't exist back then, so I could upgrade.

I've got an SRAM Red Blackbox ceramic BB for the Quarq. It was cheap enough to give it a shot. So far, so good. Spins nice. It will be getting an overhaul next week.
