Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, those look like they'll give you a workout in a short time.

In this case, extra rolling resistance. It's whether you consider the marginal gain of less rolling resistance (or air resistance if you are looking at aero) or marginal cost of more.

If you are not performance oriented, it matters quite little.

I thought that you'd already had the Conti GP4kII epiphany? Tire casings differ in how much energy it takes to deform as they roll along - that energy has to come from somewhere.

It's marginal when you're looking at the very, very best tires (like time trial variants) vs exceptional daily tires (GP5000, Pro One Addix, Power Road, Eagle F1, etc, etc), but the gains/losses compared run-of-the-mill ****** tires can be considerably more than marginal. 10w, 15w, 20w per tire is nothing to be sneezed at, even if you're just noodling along.

You don't go on the roof. The rake handle telescopes so you do the work from the ground.

I put 11 psi in the fat bike tires when I take it on the road. Zero deflection.

I did indeed. But that was in another lifetime. I guess I have no business faulting someone else for it. Point taken.

Larnell at it again, this time going out of his comfort zone with Metallica. Unfortunately, the first listen through is with the drum track. It would have been interesting to hear what he'd have done given free reign instead of mimicking -

Done. I am shocked. Shocked! At how easily it went on. All these years of handwringing. I followed Yellow Jersey's directions, with just one coat on each surface, though I did touch up a few dry spots on the tire. And @datlas bare feet suggestion. Though there wasn't much pulling involved. Tomorrow is the test ride. I assume I can ride rougher roads than I can with the gp4. That tire hit one stone and blew the sidewall. I didn't bother re-mounting the other one. I probably didn't get it as tight as I should have around the valve, but there was plenty of tire at the end.
For the (glued) spare, can I just fold it up in a bag and no worries about it sticking to itself?

Double it up so you have rubber facing outside on both sides. Roll/fold starting opposite valve. That way the glue is sticking to itself on the opposite side of the base tape. Secure under saddle with old toe strap for full C&V effect.

I badly need a real bike ride for my mental health, but the recent snowstorm and cold temps mean another weekend with fake miles and maybe some XC Skiing for outdoor activity.

Is it spring yet?

We've finally exited our long stretch of bitter cold, so I'll actually get to ride outside this weekend. Heck, going by the 7-day forecast, I might be able to ride without the studs by next weekend. Oh, and while holed up, I actually got my old Speed/Cadence sensor set up on the Haanjo
