the MAX is amazing. I was about to score an MXL last week, sad the seller cannot ship as the city he's in is in strict lockdown . Anyone has any experience riding the MAX and MXL? which one is better?

I've just given my 1996 Merckx EX ti a makeover for its 25th birthday. Now with added chrome Columbus Max fork that took me over 2 years to source. Also added a lovely gunmetal NOS 3TTT bar and stem combo which looks great with the ti. Running 20 speed Campagnolo, ti seatpost and 28c tyres, Lizard Skins tape and a Iscaselle Tornado saddle.

1972 or 73 Kessels "Eddy Merckx", purchased directly from Eddy's builder in Ostend, Belgium in July of 1973. Unlike the post-1979 Eddy Merckx bikes, this dates from the time when Eddy was still racing, and at the height of his powers. A top-notch professional frame with modest parts to fit my budget. Kessels built bikes for Eddy and the Molteni team from at least 1971 to 1976, concurrently with Colnago and DeRosa.

Eddy Merckx SLX - Z 6058
Hi All, My first post and I hope this is the correct thread to ask for advice on selling my Eddy Merckx. I will hold off on posting pictures until I know I'm in the right thread. In 1985 I purchased an Eddy Merckx, Panasonic, SLX from my LBS.
It is all original with Campagnolo group set. Any advice on gathering information on value would be greatly appreciated, as I am selling it, and spend my time on a gravel bike. Appears that pictures can be posted after I have made 10 posts,
Thank You - Greg

Hi Greg, value will depend on the details so pics will definitely help, what size is it? Is it in great condition still or a bit battered? Does it have lots of chrome, the more the merrier, and what condition is that and the paint in?
Campagnolo group set sounds good, but what level is it, top end record or the lesser costing groups? If you're not sure exactly again just post pics here and people will help you figure it out, along with any other components, saddles, bars etc.
Also helps to know where in the world you are and where you are prepared to ship to, as those costs needs factoring in for any buyer. I'm UK based so have to pay import duties in addition to shipping costs if shipping from USA and Europe.
1985 makes it one of the earlier Team Panasonic ones. I've got an early Team Panasonic with a full chrome fork and chrome rear end, that's been dated to approx autumn 85 thanks to CyclesMakaron . If you ask him nicely and post pics of the underside of the BB shell to show the serial numbers marked there, and post them in this thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...kx-frames.html he will be able to date it exactly for you and may have some other info that may be useful on a for sale thread.
They are nice bikes and seem to hold their value well, or likely have increased in value since prices went crazy upwards since Covid, so depending on condition and specs I'm sure you'll find a buyer for it.
I was out on mine this morning and it was looking good in the early morning winter sun, and as I've got a new phone with a much better camera it gives me an excuse to post it again

Hi Botty,
Thank you so much for your response. Looking at all the beautiful EM's here makes me nostalgic for my own to ride again. I can PM CyclesMakaron once I hit 10 posts (-; The bike is located in the U.S. Condition is very good. There are a few small chips in the paint/ Like 3-4. Drive side lower stay is the only Chromed part. Fork is all cream colored.

I have considered getting new wheels/tires for it. Original wheels are tubular, whichI would not ride. Despite being good at tuning bikes I have no clue as to what it would cost to retro fit the bike with new wheels and integrated shifters. I also am in the dark as to what size hubs to purchase. Complete novice in that area. This more of a reason as to why I am thinking of selling it. Those costs could be pretty steep I suppose. I have trouble going the cheap route on such a beautiful bike.

Hello! I just finished building my '84 Professional SL/SP EM frameset (57cm)(Thank you, CyclesMakaron for dating this frameset). Built with older Ultegra stuff that I had in my parts box. I was able to source downtube indexed 10 speed shifters (Dura Ace). It's a very responsive and very stiff frame! Especially comparing to '81 Peugeot PK10 which I had last summer. Geometry is very aggressive much more aggressive comparing to my old '72 Super Course. Not sure if Eddy Merckx fits me 100%. Still getting used to it. And with new Fizik seat adaptation takes way longer. Have a look at this machine! Cheers!
