Here's my commuter. I find it to be more aesthetically appealing than my road bike. I've converted the old threaded front end to threadless, added a disc fork, and built a set of wheels with Mavic A719 rims and Alfine hubs (IGH and dynohub). I've since added a minimalist dynamo taillight from B&M - should get another picture with the new taillight and my panniers on.
The lighting in the photo is sort of atrocious since I was playing with opening and closing my blinds.

The disc brakes are Avid BB7. They took a day or two to bed (with me purposely slamming on them at red lights in Manhattan traffic). One morning before I knew they were 'ready' I pressed them hard and as my bike came to an almost complete stop one of my feet almost slipped off the pedal and I very nearly went over the bars very slowly. Good brakes!
1" headset and 1" fork. Take out old headset cups (frame incurred a scratch or two because I insisted on doing it myself without the proper tools), press new ones in (very easy with a long bolt and some washers), put new crown race on fork (my lbs did that in a few seconds for free, but it can be done at home).
I've heard that 1" threadless is not the safest but considering how hefty this disc fork is I am not worried in the slightest. Maybe with a 1" carbon steerer or something you'd have reason to worry.

The Grand Jubilee was always an awfully nice bike. I miss Motobecane. Back in 1979, I had two lovely Motobecanes. One was a Mirage which was a fantastic commuter. It had interesting handling whereby it would improve with extra weight on the front. The other was a Grand Champion, a very high end bike, which I took on pleasure rides.

Great ride! I love those fenders. Do you get any foot splash from that front wheel? I wish my SKS's had coverage like that.

My Giant Escape M2. Posted many pages ago, but heavily upgraded. The frame, fork, headset, seat clamp and front mech remain standard.

My 2008 Jamis Aurora car substitute
Swapped out the rickety adjustable stem, after 6 months of experimenting with positions, for a solid chrome one.
Shimano 324 hybrid pedals.
Vittoria Randoneur Hyper 35mm on the rear wheel. This tire is a fantastic upgrade but just barely fits within the frame, you'd better have a really true wheel to use a tire this big on the aurora. My rear wheel was refusing to stay true at first. I had the rear wheel rebuilt with sturdier spokes. The mechanic discovered that it had been built with spokes a little too long on the drive side, and that had f-ed my sh-t all up.

NA-FRR is correct, a seller on eBay named Alexo has them for cheap. Use it for very low weight items. I use it to hold my U Lock.
