Looking For A New Frame - Fixed, Fenders, Rack - Suggestions Please!

I'm looking for new frame and would like some suggestions, please. I'd like a frame that has horizontal dropouts or track ends as I ride fixed. I also need braze-ons for a rear rack and fenders. Lastly I need room for 28mm tires with said fenders. Does anything fit the bill aside from the Cross Check? I'd like something a little lighter than the CC. The Salsa Cassaroll looked nice, but sadly it's out of production.

Thanks.

Z.

Check out the All-City Nature Boy or Space Horse, and Soma Wolverine.

The Rivendell SimpleOne or Quickbeam would be perfect, but you'd have to find a used one.

Otherwise, many vintage steel frames have horizontal ends, proper clearance, and fender/rack bosses.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't heard of the All-City line before. Well worth checking out. As I'm in Europe perhaps someone knows some UK makers?

As for used, there really isn't much available here in Latvia, and I wouldn't buy one sight unseen, so used really isn't an option for me.

One thing to remember about track ends and fenders - if the fender is worth a damn, you'll have to take it off in order to replace the tube or tire.

Thanks. I get around that on my Rob Roy by using SKS quick release mounts on the rear. Works a charm.

Curious about the suggestion of the soma wolverine; the double cross weighs less, though not a huge difference from the cross check. If you are trying to keep weight down, consider a carbon fiber fork; that alone can save you about 1 1/2 pounds over the surly fork.

With horizontal dropouts, I loosen the stay nuts on the lower set of stays only, and the PB fender is flexible enough to remove the wheel. The fender usually doesn't even come off the ends of the stays. Never had to completely remove the fender to remove the wheel. Maybe metal fenders would require removal.

I'd look for a used bike with horizontal drop outs as that is probably the most cost effective option.

Soma also sells the new albion privateer frame which is their "inexpensive" line: New Albion Privateer Frame

No, you don't have to take the fenders off... All you need to do is loosen one nut on the fender stays and then bend the fender sideways a little bit to pull the wheel out.

Were I to build another fixed bike for use as a commuter, I would probably start with Fyxation Eastside.
