Is road cycling utterly pointless?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This thread is pointless...which leads me to believe that it may very well be, the point.

The destination of the ride is pointless, the ride itself slightly less pointless. Obtaining bike bling on the other hand, is quite gratifying.

But then it actually does have a point, negating the very reason for creating it.

Cycling as done on 41 is completely pointless, but sadly, it is still not as pointless as rockclimbing or mountaineering.

Good point! But is it really your point in pointing out that it actually has a point?

The only points I've discovered while cycling have caused flat tires.

Are you smoking crack**********

Nevermind, it's a rhetorical question.

Of course, there are no mountains in Virginia, so I could see how you could come to that opinion when you're surrounded by hills and bumps.

It still doesn't make the activity any less pointless if I move out west.

Pretty pointless but I still depend on it for my sanity. Still beats running. THAT is totally pointless, and stupid.
