1988 Peugeot Sante. Light, stiff, and functional. The photo shows the bike as bought; I added proper pedals and swapped out the seat for a white Terry that fits me better yet conforms to the style of the bike.

1972 Motobecane Grand Jubile. Another bike that I built from a repainted frame, using parts that I preferred. The bike is a bit too big for me but rides very well.

Follis 172 circa 1973. I built this from the frame with some original parts. Three tubes Reynolds and a superb ride, comfortable yet controlled. Since I took that picture I put on a Nervar crank, as would have been original on this bike.

I had it powder coated some years ago . . 2018? The chainring is 26. I am a wimp. But seriously, the bike is amazingly nice. Very comfortable with the long wheelbase and 42mm tires, yet with a sporting feel that encourages you (well, me) to press onward.

My ride today, a 1973 PR 10. Three tubes Reynolds, lots of decent but heavy parts compared to a PX. It is twitchier and less compliant than my Follis, which is also 3 tubes Reynolds. One of these days I am going to put a Reynolds fork on this beast to see how it affects the ride.
The bike is original except for the shifters, which were added by the original owner, and the Delrin brake levers, which I replaced with Weinmanns.

I have been in touch with the French consulate, and they say you are not a whimp. If you ever find yourself in dirt, or decide to go touring, you will be glad you have that 26T. I have a 30T on the inside chainring on my Manufrance's Nervar triple. I've always been partial to the UO8. That is a great color.

1971 PA 10. The frame uses Peugeot's Cadre Allégé (Light frame) tubing, which is rather a misnomer, but it does make a bike that is pleasant to ride. The bike is a lower end race bike with cottered steel cranks and other heavy bits, but with sewup tires standard. This inexpensive boy (or girl) racer was a common type of bike in the early 70s. And to be honest, the bike is a delight to ride. I've put fat Veloflex sewups on the bike, and it just rooooolls. Fun!
It is entirely stock except for the brake levers. The originals had white Delrin bodies that were starting to crack, so I replaced them with Weinmann levers.

1962 Peugeot AO-8. It has the original white Delrin Simplex derailleurs. Note that the rear derailleur does not have the metal box that stiffened the Delrin for later versions. The paint is badly worn; I think it spent too much time in a damp garage near the ocean and suffered from the salty wet air. The photos show guidonnet brake levers, but I could not get used to them and swapped in a pair of Mafac levers with the extra "safety" levers.
The bike has original steel wheels so I don't ride it unless the weather is sunny and dry. I usually keep it on the local trails, where it is quite pleasant. Even the derailleurs work well enough to keep me satisfied!

Here are a couple yellow 'bécanes from around 1973. First up is a Mirage, totally stock save for the addition of toe clips. Second is a Grand Touring, which I built up from a bare frame. Both bikes used 1020 high-ten steel and had similar riding characteristics. They were not stodgy but were steady and substantial. I preferred the happier presence of my Peugeots, and these frames were a bit too big for me, so is passed them on to other riders.

When I got this bike it still had the original Hutchinson tires and tubes! They were too badly warped from disuse to keep, alas.

Yes, i also have a Grand Jubile with three tubes 531 and it is a very nice bike. Still too tall for me but I ride it when I am in Reims. I posted about it above.
