What is a Raleigh Gran Tour (!?)
Hi all!
First day on Bike Forums - looks like an awesome community.
I was wondering anyone knew much about a bike I bought last year. I saw it on craigslist in factory mint condition, and had to have it. I paid a pretty penny for it
It's a mid 80's Raleigh Gran Tour. It has 531 tubing and fork .. black with bronze colored brazing in the lugs.
It has campy gear throughout, but the previous owner said Raleigh sold these as frame sets only, so the components for each one are different. I'm not sure if this is true.
The only thing I've been able to find online is a picture of a frame set from the 80's from a Raleigh catalog. I think I saw that on Sheldon Brown's site.
Anyone know anything about these bikes? I absolutely love mine, but wish I knew more about it.
Cheers!
Harvey

Welcome to BF C&V!
I believe the seller is correct about it being sold as a frame only model. Here is a link to the 1983 catalog page.

Hey all,
This is the only picture I have of it on this computer. I'll try to post more when I get to my desktop.

Your pic didn't come thru. Best to post them on a free service like Photobucket or Flickr and then post a link here.

Why the sad smiley ? It's certainly worth a pretty penny and then some. Beautiful bike, we could do with some more photos. Interesting setup; a racy Audax bike perhaps ?
