Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not ready to give up yet. Told myself if I went outside to ride today, I'd buy myself a new bike. Did 20 miles and am thinking about it.

Looks like ND has a lot of those dots. Mostly around Minot. Probably all the missile silos out there. I think the closest one to me is Grand Forks AFB.

I've actually been to Armageddon. Actually Har Megiddo. Beautiful place. Lots of beautiful orchards and row crop farms.

Yeah, that’s the fema map. Someone’s got one that extrapolates to fallout as well, based on this years data. That says south west Texas is a good spot. I’d link but the censor has issues with the source.

you can always play with nukemap online as well.

dots are in a 2000 nuke scenario (triangles 500). Those are def the silos.

I take pride in my mile count when I am only home 3-4 days a week but then I get angry when I don’t get the results I want. I am really good at talking in circles. Last year I had 10,100 miles, this year I have to beat that in my sick mind……

The first race of 2024 is in Feb, it’s a 35-65 mile road race. I need to start training for that.
Okay, so let me ask you a personal question - Do you actually enjoy riding? Leave aside the question of training, or mileage, or results. Do you find yourself just grooving on the road, the bike, the scenery? I find that on my longer rides, every time, at least once, I'll give a sigh of contentment.

Well mileage =/= fitness, but I'm sure you already knew that. Mileage in and of itself is a very "roadie" goal to have, but if that makes you happy, nothing wrong w that. You might feel better on the bike and get stronger if you start riding less. It would require more interval rides as you mentioned, but maybe that's a good thing if it means you'd get more sleep or time for other things. Are you making sure to take a systematic de-loading or easy week every 4 or so?

And winning races is another thing entirely. Most courses aren't summit finishes so fitness is more like a basement or base minimum thing, It's hard to win races when you're tired all the time, even if you're fit AF. Also didn't you just get a gravel bike? That could go against the whole mileage goal thing since those are slower miles. Most racers talk in terms of hours and/or TSS for the training obsessed (like me).

Lastly I hope your boy's issues clear up and that you can avoid a procedure!
