Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I use a seatbag. Far more comfortable than carrying a tube and levers in my jersey pocket.

i don't think you really need a lever, however, it does make the job somewhat easier, i never carry a lever or levers

How can I tell if my seatbag is gay? I'd feel a little uncomfortable with a gay bag that close to my crotch and all... please, enlighten us.

My seatbag is gay, but I have learned to accept that and love it for what it is.

Small seat bag for essentials. My desire for only a few items in my jersey pockets (gels, phone) is stronger than my OCP.

The seatbag has stuff for the bike and the pockets have stuff for the rider. I take what I need and the bike brings what it needs (or hopefully doesn't).

I would always be forgetting something if I had to stuff it in my pockets instead of having it already strapped to my bike. Not only that, but I'd run out of pocket space on centuries. And hey, you never know when you might find something useful along the road that might take up some pocket space. It's never happened to me, but one of these days... How are you going to take that beautiful item home if your pockets are already full of crap?

Buy a smaller frame and a longer seatpost. Problem solved!

I agree and I hate them but the real reason I don't have one is i just don't think about it when i'm in the store. A small one I can live with.

When you get a few flats on one, you do what? I always have a seatbag + a cellphone. And if they're gay, what's wrong with gay?

*keep forgetting the juvenile psyche of the ocp*

Surely you have noticed that stuffed rear jersey pockets are exactly like fanny packs?

I'm beginning to think that botto is right: OCPissity and actual miles ridden are inversely related.

Yes, I use a seat bag with spare tube/levers/patches/bike tool/extra snack/sunglasses, and yes, I strap the big 'ol honkin' Road Morph to the top tube where all can see it, and yes, I wear white socks after Labor Day, and no, I don't stuff a bunch of crap in my jersey pockets because I don't like it on me, and yes, I put lights and brackets on it, and yes, when I get the next bike I'll probably do the same thing.

Right now, I'm thinking an all Record Colnago or perhaps a Time VXR (not sure really), but I do know that my next jersey will have a nametag with "Fred" on it, just to get it over with.

Either way, the weather tomorrow calls for about 61 deg. in the morning, with a high of 68 deg., and slightly cloudy conditions. I'm riding for a couple hours down by the beach, seat bag and all!

i guess if you only ride distances that you can walk home from then you don't need a seat bag. i like to be prepared, two tubes, patch kit, piece of tire for a boot, levers (even if i don't use them), mutlitool, and a full frame pump. i need the room in my pockets for other stuff.

i'm not beginning to think that botto is right, i've know he's right for a long time.
are you into bikes? or are you into riding?
are you into the object, or are you into the activity?
