Sullivan County NY Mountain Biking
I'm looking for some decent singletrack in Sullivan County. My parents have a house near Monticello (Lake Huntington to be specific) and I go up there throughout the summer to road ride, but have never really found decent mountain biking. I've seen online that Walnut Mountain is supposed to be pretty good, but I'm always open to other options. Anything within an hour or so of a drive. Thanks!

I generally stick to the pavement but here is a place where I know folks do a lot of trail riding:

a bit far for you but maybe worth a try.

Yeah, that really is too far. Lake Huntington is out there! Must be a zillion trails to ride, I would think! Minnewaska State Park

is closer to you and has biking on their list. Not sure how wild and crazy their bike trails get, though. It is a beautiful place!

Onteora lake would be sort of far from Monticello. I'm with Jim Kukula but depends on what kind of MTB'ing you're after. Minnewaska SP is very nice, but it's mostly carriage roads and it's kind of very busy on a nice weekend. There are more technical mtb'ing in the Mohonk Preserve but there is a fee involved (there is a fee for Minnewaska too)... there are probably some more free mtb'ing around Ellenville or in the far western catskills...

A google search dug up this old post, but I thought I would bring it back and comment that I live in this area and would love to share in a ride with some of the members here that are visiting and need someone to show them some of the nicer bike routes or mtb trails.
Just post here or send me a PM about what rides your are looking for. Lot's of nice road bike routes and mtb parks to ride, plus some rail trails (gravel) and Minniwaska or Mohonk about an hour away.
