Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If I were to change jobs, I'd rather time it such that I can just be unemployed during the process of moving to CO and handle all that for AG, then find something after all of that is done.

The boss convo will be interesting. If she demurs, that tells me all I need to know about my future there. If I can wrangle a promotion and real raise, well, I'll take it and see if it works out. After all, the severance is based on final pay... if I take it and fail, all the better.

I say that, but of course failing sucks.
If you’re a key team member and your boss doesn’t go to bat for you she’s a ****** boss.

The one thing I will say, as a manager of a group, is that we are often constrained in what we can do, and this we can end up in a situation were we want to promote somebody, but the higher ups won't agree, and you find yourself stuck - you've got somebody you think deserves more but you can't get it for them, and you can't tell them you tried, because that's kind of a dick move, trying to make yourself look good without actually helping them.

But, yeah. If the company won't pay you for the job you're doing.....

I do understand that. The reality is that my manager will likely not be able to get anything done even in the best case until the end of the year and effective in... March. And if that's the case, there's a very small chance I won't just be timing my notice.

It may not be her fault, but that also doesn't put an obligation on me.

Exactly. If the company can't or won't give managers the tools we need to retain important employees, those important employees won't stay.

That’s great! I remember when she was feeling all snake-bit and shaky after that fall. Really happy to hear!

OK. The reason I asked is that my shop said they had a Madone with Rival that they can't keep from rubbing and it's got them totally baffled.

As for BB, my wife opted for a T47 ceramic bearing BB.

She does well but we both aren't as daring as we used to be. 70+ old bones break pretty easy.

We avoid a lot of sketchy roads that we used to ride without thinking anything about it. Luckily, both of us have pretty good balance yet.

If she’s ready to buy a fancy new bike she’s doing great. Balance is highly trainable and should not be a big problem for active people.

Yeah, the bones. I’m doing one solid day a week of weights with an emphasis on squats, deads, and other moves that load the hips and spine, and I’m trying for 150g of protein a day. I’ve put on a couple of lbs this year and would like 5. I also hope not to test the theory.

Since we are both on hormone therapy, we have to get bone scans. I check out OK so far but she has to get an annual treatment of Reclast.
