Specialized Sirrus X 4.0 vs X 5.0
Hi everyone.
I gave up my road bike because it just was not comfortable any longer and now trying to decide between the X5.0 and the X4.0. I test rode both bikes and find the fully carbon X5.0 to be eve so slightly slightly more comfortable. With its slightly better components and all carbon frame I’m just not sure it’s worth the extra $900 in price over the X4.0.
The overwhelming majority of my riding is on smooth paved roads, so I’m not concerned about how they ride on dirt, gravel, etc, and the length of my usual ride is about 15 miles.
I’m 72 years old and I have two herniated discs at the L4 and L5 and at this point, I’m looking for a more comfortable ride. Both bikes have Future Shock which certainly is a plus.
I do love the looks of the X4.0 especially in the dark gray color but I’m not so sure about the new frame design on the X5.0. It reminds me of what’s been said about a new car model in its first year.
And I know this may sound silly, but I find the lack of the specialized logo on the downtube of the X5.0 is a little weird looking. I really have no desire to show off or advertise the brand of bike I’m riding. I just find that having the logo on the downtube is more aesthetically pleasing.
Price is not a concern but I also don’t want to spend extra money if it’s not justified.
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

The asthetics are a big deal for me and if I don't like the looks then I won't ride it.
If you like the 4.0 then grab it and make additions to help with comfort:
- CF seat post
- CF or Titanium handle bars
- Saddle of your choice
