new bmx bike has resistance while back pedaling
I just bought a haro shredder pro 20 in. I put the front tire on etc. I went to pedal the bike to test it and it was pretty tight while pedaling forward then when going backwards it has a lot of resistance. idk why have had well over 10 bikes and have never had this problem. Do I need to take the bike a part and put it back together or send it back and get a new one? any help would be greatly appreciated

Many times the people you bought this bike from will know the common issues that their customers experience. You should get in touch with them. Especially before doing something that might prevent you from getting full refund for your return.
I'm not clear what you are saying is giving you resistance. Is it the front wheel you put on? Take it out and see how it spins when you just hold the axle.
What does the rear wheel spin like when you lift it up off the ground? How about the crankshaft? Does it move easily? Might need to remove the chain to check both of those.
Please tell me you checked the brake adjustment and there is a mm or so between the pads.

It could be a few things but my guess is the chain is too tight. You need to loosen it a bit and maybe oil it.

You'll need to diagnose this with your hands on the bike, rather than from afar via the internet. Put the bike in a stand, or hang it by the seat. Does the crank spin backwards freely? If not, take a look at the bottom bracket. Are the bearings side-loaded to the point where they're binding? Do the wheels spin freely? Is there brake rub? Does the chain bind up at one or two crankarm positions?

As others have said, the chain is likely too tight- due to the rear wheel being just a bit too far back in the dropouts. Slide it forward JUST a little and then re-tighten the rear wheel nuts (making sure the wheel is straight)
