Question Does Your Saris H3 Trainer Stink Like Plastic?

I bought a Saris H3 smart trainer last winter and noticed instantly that it gives off a strong plastic smell whenever I used it. With winter here again in the Midwest, I'm back to riding indoors and back to the strong plastic smell from my trainer.

For those who also have the H3, does the smell ever go away!?!?

Since the trainer is mostly composed of plastic and the plastic gets warm when using the trainer, I'm concerned this might a problem that doesn't go away. I have a fan on the floor in front of me while riding indoors and yet I still get an intense plastic smell from the trainer. Other than the plastic smell, it's been a solid trainer.

Smells more like oil or grease when my H3 heats up, but yea it stinks. My setup is directly in front of a window with a high powered box fan, but I also turn on exhaust ventilation while exercising to help draw the fumes away.

Just got mine as an early Christmas present and no smells after two 1 hour rides in a small room with the door closed.

We have two at our house ( used to live separate ) . Both H3 work great with no issues or smell.

PoorInRichfield or ctak , did you ever resolve this? I picked up an H3 in April, and just used it for the first time due to weather and noticed a definite rubber/oil/plastic-type smell after my hour long workout. I emailed Saris customer service to see what they say if it's normal or not.

The smell has dissipated... i.e., I no longer smell the trainer after a long ride.

That's good to hear (and thanks for the reply on the necro-bump!). Likely a breaking-in period of some sort then I guess. Do you remember how long until you didn't notice it anymore?

Mine sits in my living-room, and I am hyper-sensitive to smells and never noticed anything.

Are you sure it isn't the switching power supply?

For mine, it was a very distinct plastic smell. Unfortunately, I'm getting used to buying products that smell when new, just like how a new car has that "new car smell" that goes away over time. It's called "off gassing" and isn't particularly healthy, but there's not much we can do about it.
