I'm looking for a racing bike, but I'm new to the world of bicylces. Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

Be patient with your search. To give you an idea of the disparity amongst prices check out these 2 Peugeots....
$80 and the better buy..... https://tampa.craigslist.org/bik/647605792.html

ZOMBIE THREAD FROM 2008
"What's it worth" posts like this one are usually moved to the Valuation Forum, but... since you're here:
"I'm looking for a racing bike, but I'm new to the world of bicycles. Any help you could give me would be much appreciated."
Suggestions for anyone in this situation:
Do you mean your are looking for a racing style bike or do you want to get involved organized bike racing events?
Once you decide what you're shopping for there's several things to consider:
1. What's your budget? When you buy a used bike you should factor in a least $100 - $150 for necessary repairs and servicing.
2. Frame size. Finding a frame that fits you properly is the most important thing to look for. A bike that's too big or too small will rarely be comfortable to rise.
3. The frame and wheels are the most important parts of a sporting bike. The rest of the components are not that crucial and can be replaced or upgraded.
Good Luck

Just to jump in on this necro thread I will add that I sold a basically mint old Peugeot Record Du Monde 63cm (carbolite gas pipe tubing) bike with a mix of components for $275 in the NYC area a few months ago. The frame was garbage picked by my dad like 20 years ago in Brooklyn and proceeded to lay in a box for all that time, so it was basically NOS.
Building it up:
On its way home to a new owner:
I guess even old Peugeots appreciate in value after so much time lol.

Carbolite (103) is hardly "gaspipe". Are there other Carbolite tubings? I had a Carbolite 103 Peugeot for awhile and it was a pretty decent bike.

I stand corrected. I thought carbolite was significantly worse than Reynolds of Columbus of the era but then again I don't know much about that stuff. thanks for enlightening me
