Mercier Service des courses
Hello everybody,
I recently found this Mercier Service des courses. It's in France and the base price is set at 130€. Is this a good deal/ good bike? It’s paint conditions seem to not be the best. Would you still recommend me to get it?
I don't have much other info on this one other than what can be seen in the images. So any help is super welcome.
Thank you!

would have had a much nicer chainset and pedals ex-works
gear ensemble mixed
has been worked on
frame evidently eleven tube 531 so that is a definite plus
worth getting only if your size and you are confident about being able to fit some components commensurate with calibre of frame...

I’m a bit concerned about the paint job. Unsure how much care it needs and if there’s any way to get that pink colour back to life. Also I wouldn’t be able to see the bike in person as it would be shipped to me.
Do you think even with all these changes would be worth it?
thank you

yes, a 105 chainset would be most appropriate
may well be what she would have come with ex-works
present shift levers and front mech are earlier and lower down the range than cycle
evidently some of machine's original fittings were harvested to fit to another mount
appears to date from second half of the nineteen seventies

I like this bike but it is marginal whether you should buy it at around $160 US. That's generally an attractive price for a quality frame like this made from Reynolds 531 but the parts are so so and the paint job could be better. Also since it is being shipped, the seller should be willing to give you a run down of the components (hubs, rims, etc.). I am also concerned about the shimmed seatpost; that's a sloppy job and is likely hiding some issues. I'd pass.

Thanks a lot for all the insights.
It’s a hard one as I really like the model of the bike but I think I will take the advice and pass this one.

I'm sorry you are letting that one pass, no the pink will not come back. Red pigments can be like that that why good red paints cost so much.
I would rock the pink Mercier to the max, but I would not pay much $60, $80 max. I do think the €130 is not a horrible price if the wheels are good and everything is fully functioning and all is aligned. The parts are very eclectic, with the cottered cranks being a budget replacement.
