Another Rehab Milestone
It has been a long and sometimes frustrating journey to get to this point; and there is still road to travel. Two biggies, walking and riding a bike.
Last Saturday I rode my road bike 33 miles as part of a local bike event. To do that I had to replace the clip-in spd pedals with flat pedals; I can't reliably unclip yet. Nor can I drink while riding yet so I had to stop for every drink, which didn't help my time. But I did it.. I rode the whole way. Success!
Now to conquer walking. The toes and balls of my feet still pretty lazy about doing their job of balancing and propelling.
Onward and upward!

Glad that the recovery is going well HawkOwl, you seem to be coming along very well for all you have been through. Best wishes on things getting even better for you.

YES!!
You have accomplished far, far beyond what the MD's and rehab people would ever reasonably expect, and hardly anyone in their mid 70's could ride 33 miles, and you are doing it after two very major back surgeries and nerve damage associated with your back breakdown.
It is an honor to know you and to watch your progress. Many (most) would have given up. You are an inspiration to all.

Lest I get speared like a public figure I need to make sure everyone knows I am mobile on two legs. But without strength and feeling in the balls and toes of my feet it is pretty unbalanced and gimpy and I need a cane for distance or crowds. I can ride because I pedal using my insteps.
Many have challenges to overcome. Thanks for your encouragement in helping me rise to mine.
