Just so everyone knows

A vast number of threads on this forum would make everyone think that speed is the holy grail of cycling. I contend it is not. I say that the vast majority of cyclist just ride for the enjoyment of the ride. We just like to be out in the open air, enjoy the sites, and or run errands. We dont ride high priced bikes, or dress in high priced kits. We dont care about form, position, cadence or any of that, we just enjoy the kind of riding we like.

WE thank you, Mr. Peterson, and your recumbent disciple, for showing us the One True Way of the Retrogrouch Unracer.

We shall paddle our dead horses in exaltation!

I am coming up on 65yoa and speed is still what gives me the enjoyment of the ride. I don't wear the latest and greatest "Kit" and mostly wear a button down type shirt and cargo type shorts over a pair of bike shorts, but make no mistake I watch my average speed on the old fashioned bike computer. Speed is relative tho. My days of averaging ~19-20 mph are getting fewer on 20 mile rides but I hate it if my average drops below 18mph. I don't get near the enjoyment from a 16mph average as i do a 18mph average. I have doing all my riding on a $1400 bike that probably realistically should have been a $900 bike (Handsome XOXO) I have been lusting after a lighter more modern bike maybe a Lynskey or an Otso. I totally care about form and cadence simply because proper form and cadence will make me go faster more efficiently.

Thank you for leading us to the One True Way. Nice to know that you are right and others are wrong. Glad that is now settled.

Riding bicycles is not that serious. Do what you want it doesn't matter at all.

Disagree.

And please try to avoid being so constantly butthurt by the few contributions that may not apply to your own particular style of the sport.

I doubt that that applies to "the vast majority of cyclist", but regardless, if it does, why would they come to these forums? Heck, why would they need need any forums at all?

If you don't care about speed, high-priced bikes, high-priced kits, form, position, cadence, or any of that, don't get involved with discussions about those things. There are people who those things matter to, and they enjoy discussing them.

Since this is a thread about nothing ... nothing at all ... other than 'do what you like', we should have a soundtrack.

I love the occasional "pronouncement" thread. It allows me to see what I'm doing wrong; so I can continue doing it, knowing it's driving someone buggy. "On yer left Fred"
