1992 Rocky Mountain Hammer
I have some MTB parts packed away, and was looking for just the right frame to hang them on.
This jumped out and said "Buy Me"!!
Hope to have it on the road by spring.

Nice! I have a '91 which even has an Onza sticker on it. Essentially the same frame but red. Please do a build thread for it.

I'm glad you bought that! You saved me from myself. I was very tempted, but I've already got an early Rocky Mountain Sherpa in the garage, waiting to be tuned up. I had a RM Stratos which died this year (bottom bracket seizure, followed by disastrous attempts to release same!)

Pics of your Stratos? I wanted one so bad back in 90/91.

Here's all I have left: one photo!
It was a really great ride; I bought it for $19 at the Salvation Army, fixed it up and used it for 5 winters before I trashed it trying to replace the bottom bracket.

Thanks,
A few days ago I didn't know Rocky Mountain existed. When I did a bit of research, I found out it was a good frame and Canadian.
What does "Onza" mean? Google just brings me to tires.
Today I went to the lbs, for a new bottom bracket and grips, and installed a Deore crank set I had laying around.
I don't have as many parts as I thought. A lot of it is is the wrong size, style etc.
It might take a while to get it on the road.

onza
Web definitions
The Onza is claimed to be a feline species similar to a cougar. It is a cryptid – a creature whose existence has been alleged but not proved. The term has also been used to refer to the jaguarundi.

Regarding your frame: The company is indeed Canadian, but your frame is made by Toyo in Japan.

Tires, brakes, bar ends etc..... Their most coveted vintage part is their white Porcupine tires. If you have any spares send them my way... great gripping, but fast wearing. I didn't think they were from Canada.

Why, they do look like certain pills! Thanks for sharing more of that gorgeous yeti.
another query for you guys: can anyone tell me more about Ballistic forks, specifically their carbon fibre models?

A couple Onza catalogs >>> https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/...za/Catalogues/
I think I have some literature on Ballistic. Will have a look.

I gave a set of racing porcs in way better shape to the local co-op a few years back before I had any interest in vintage MTBs. I knew they were special but no one wanted to buy them for even a pittance so I gave em away. They probably never made it on a bike and ended up in the trash. shame.
I like the Yeti very very much.

I haven't found anything yet. I think they were Taiwanese and I vaguely recall they were elastomer forks. Not one of the main fork suppliers in Holland in the early 90s. Rock Shox, Manitou, Marzocchi and RondWP were the brands with the largest market share. Maybe add Girvin, Pace and AMP to it. For a Dutch it is especially nice to have RondWP HydroPro.

There were two separate thoughts in that previous post of mine and I edited for clarity. One was re: onza, the other re: rocky mountain bicycles.

I have a hard time throwing out (mostly) skinwalls (which makes it tough to park in the garage) along with other old MTB junk. This year my resolution is to use it or purge it......No Really.....really....

Well I could use some tires, but I am sure you know what is worth what. However I would love some of those lighter coloured tires, would look good against the red on my Rocky Mountain The Edge and Hammer.

Tires are tough to put a price on. any that are old enough to be era correct can not be trusted. After ruining an early Crossroads one month and a brand new 34 year old Uniroyal Nobby (that took me two years to find) a few months later, I vowed never to ride on old rubber again (for my well being and my wallet). I will mount them up, take pics and display with the correct tires but when it comes time to ride, I really like the repop Timbuk 2's from First Flight bike.
I have my favorites for sure. 90+ I like Panaracer Smokes front and rear because that was my favorite back in the day. 85-90 make mine Specialized Ground Controls. Pre 85 is where things get tougher to find and I am not nearly that picky.
I am currently looking for correct tires for a 37 Schwinn Klunker (Uniroyal Nobby, or SnakeBelly's), 83 Ritchey Competition (first generation IRC X1's), 83 Mountain Goat (IRC X1, Stumpjumper (the tire not the bike), or SnakeBellies), 84 Moots Mountaineer ( IRC X1, Stumpjumper, or Specialized Tri-Cross). I geek out way too much on some of this stuff.
Most of the skinwalls in that stack aren't good for much outside of pictures and wall art.
A few old tires:
Uniroyal Nobby 70's:
Snake Belly (Mitsuboshi, not Cyclepro) 79-early 80's:
Specialized Crossroads Rear, Crossroads 2 front 84ish:
