Time for Adieu after 29 years
Oops!!! after 20 years
In about 2004 or so, "Joe"Gardner started the BikeForums. Several of us on a similar platform moved here because the mod of the previous forum had developed wrist problems. Shortly after, there was discussion about a 50+ forum,and as it turned out, Joe and I started this sub forum. I wrote the description, which survives to this day.
"Share the victories, challenges, successes and special concerns of bicyclists 50 and older. Especially useful for those entering or reentering bicycling".
My user name at the time was DnvrFox. Joe sold the forum and disappeared .I sponsored the first "Annual Ride" in Glenwood Springs" Along the way there were some really ups and downs with the mods and others, and I got banned. So, some years later I snuck back in as "gobicycling."
I am in my 85th year, and time is catching up with me. Lungs filled with bones from a rare orphan disease, Dendriform Pulmonary Ossification in all 5 lobes. This causes a marked reduction in endurance. 1/2 of face dead from treatment for extremely painful Trigeminal Neuralgia. Cardiac hypertension (NOT the BP type, which is still 120/70); severe back pain, and a bunch of other stuff. Additionally, my wife needs a lot of support. I doubt I can/will ride this year. And my wife, at 87, is also stopping riding. And,no E-Bike for us.
So, I am slowly backing out of the cycling world. I do moderate a 65+ FB group, which was unique when I started it, but they are all over the place now - 60+, 70+, 80+, etc. Several 50+ Forum friends are no longer with us.
So, I bid you goodbye. However, I will be peeking over your shoulders - just not posting.

Ahhhhh. Wow, you have really persevered. You're the toughest cyclist I ever heard of. 79 next month and all I have is some heart issues, mostly repaired.

gobicycling Bikeforums, and your contributions to it have enriched my life through learning better, smarter cycling ideas. And the 50 Plus Forum has helped me for the last dozen years (actually read it since my 40s.)

So sorry to learn of your aches and pains, Denver, but I can, to some extent, empathize. I'm in my 84th year and have slowed down a lot due to breathing problems and my wife has had serious health problems, but is still going strong. We have electrified our tandem and feel no shame!!
I well remember the first Annual Ride in Glenwood, CO. We drove from Florida, so it allowed us Brits to see a lot of the USA.

I just need to add in some good news. Had my annual physical yesterday and everything came out perfect as far as blood work and other stuff they measure. HDL Cholesterol down even more, PSA 1.1, down .1, bp120/70, etc. So I'm not dead yet.

When I joined BF 15 years ago, I was mainly in this forum, even though I was wet-behind-the-ears 48 year old at the time. Dnvrfox was a significant presence then, and I learned a lot from him/you.
I had wondered what became of you. when people disappear from an internet venue, there is a strange void. Did they lose interest, stop riding, or stop breathing?
I'm sorry to hear that you have so many health challenges. I know we all have some nasty surprises ahead of us, one day or another.

Denver, I am thankful for the dinner you, Nora, and I enjoyed years ago, when you visited Carlsbad CA. I always enjoyed reading your posts and appreciated your contributions to BF. I have always sensed shared values, including not only bicycling, but also commitment to family. I recall some of the health challenges your sons faced, as well.
My wife and I are a decade behind you. Father Time always wins, but I am determined to put up one hell of a fight against him, and my bicycles, walking/running shoes, and YMCA membership are my best physical arsenal for so doing.

I came here in 05 and found sanctuary in 50+. The kinder gentler attitude was refreshing. I became a long distance cyclist. I learned so much by being a consistent lurker here. I just noticed this is my 200 th post in about nineteen years . The advice my old man gave me when I left for the military was “ Keep your eyes and ears open and keep your mouth shut.”
Now at 73 I can feel the decline in my cycling. The fire burns but is getting low on fuel.I will keep at it as long as I can and the fire is still burning.
