Tour de Chesapeake

Anybody here familiar with this event?
Maybe a fun, smallish affair, with what looks like some nice routes?

My early Saturday morning brain read the thread title as "Tour de Cheapskate".

I did the Tour de Chesapeake a couple of times several years ago, it was primarily around Matthews, VA and Gynn's Island. Very picturesque, flat as a pancake, and a bit chilly one of the times.

I read Tour de Cheesecake, this is the Clyde forum after all. Oh wait, I'm in the wrong section.

Looks like a great ride, I just wish is was farther up the peninsula.

Not too far away for me, but I've never heard of it. Still not quite ready for congregating with others yet despite getting my 2nd shot last week. Maybe in 2022, however, presuming that gives them a year to fix the website... too many "can't open page" results. Should be a rather flat route, perfect for my no-low-gears bikes.

This was a very nice event, with impressive participation in a really nice area.
Three routes, much of them on lightly-trafficed roads, and all offering outstanding scenery.
Excellent homemade treats at the rest stops, clean restrooms, and good people throughout the day.
Topped it all off with a cold beer in the quaint little downtown of Mathews, VA.

Appreciate the report. I’ll put it on the shopping list for next year. Looks like a good place to do a long family weekend.

Glad to hear the positive report. That whole area is great for riding. My inlaws live in Lancaster, Va. I used to do this ride there that started/ended in Kilmarnock. It was called the Riverride. Sadly, it is no more. I have to sign up for it next year. Now, if you're looking for something different, you can do this one, this weekend. I, along with some other BF members will be there. It's a great ride.

You going to SOTR this weekend? I'll be there. I got the bike sitting here waiting. I should get there early enough for a/the practice ride on Saturday. I'll be struggling this year. Same old same old. I got the info on the meetup. I'll see you there if you're coming.

Pat, I will be there, along with My Friend Gary and possibly Our Buddy Sally.
Bigger news is that RobbieTunes and his paramour Gail will be there as well.
See you this weekend!

No, unfortunately working night shifts all weekend. My work schedule was already made before it became clear this was happening. I’ll miss getting together with you guys.

Sweet! Gary the rabbit. He'll be finished before I make it to the top of Thunder Ridge. See you there.

That's too bad, but life's gets in the way sometimes. That's been happening to me a lot this year. I'll be thinking about how you'd come whizzing by like a pro as I creep up the hills.

Robbie refers to his squeeze as his "lady." That cracks me up for some reason!

Well, in the Navy (and maybe Marines too) the ship’s captain or commanding officer is traditionally called the “old man” , I guess these days also, maybe the “old lady”. Anyway I call my wife the old lady and people think it’s derogatory but it really means she’s the one in charge.

His description sounds like the start of a C & W song. Maybe that's why it cracks me up. I call mine the better half..............as long as she's within hearing distance. She is the better half and keeps getting better with age, like fine wine.

Found the old ride I used to do. It was this one: It was a nice ride while it was being held. The had a century option as sell.

For the OP, this is a good ride. I can recommend it. rccardr and Spaghetti legs would probably agree.

I did the Heart of Virginia ride a few years ago. Nice folks, great route, pretty scenery. I’d do it again, although this year it’s awful close to Eroica.
Have also done the Lakes and Grapes century out of Fredericksburg/Lake Anna a couple times, highly recommended.
