Should I be concerned with my Bonktown order?
I received my Time RXS Carbon Pedals from Bonktown yesterday.
I opened the box to find no packing material and the pedals loose in the box. They did include the original Time box, and the cleats and hardware were in that. I can't find any noticeable wear on the pedals from riding loose. Only thing I can find wrong is a bit of fuzz and dirt on the threads.
The thing that scares me about these pedals (beside the fact that the pedals were not shipped in the Time box properly) is that the manufacture date on each pedal is different. The left pedal says April 2010. The right pedal however is stamped with October 2009! My old pedals that I am taking off both had the exact same date on them.
Is it normal to have two drastically different dates? Is this something I should be concerned about? I emailed Bonktown and will hopefully get their side of the story, but I am wondering what you all have to say about this. I really don't want to have to worry about defects and fractures from these possibly being second-hand pedals.
Thanks!

Or you could start a thread about how a perfectly functional piece of equipment has the wrong date on it and therefore cannot be used. I'm pretty sure no one has ever done that before...

If pedals were damaged by shipping lose in a box, I think I'd mark that as a model I'd never ride. Pedals are meant to take abuse. That's what they're for.

huh - that's strange.
I've ordered Time RXS pedals from Bonktown a variety of times (including one a week ago or so)... and they have always come in the original packaging, with all the parts, totally pristine.
I'd just ride them and not worry about it, however,
If it is going to bug you, I'd send them an email and politely ask what is up.

OP- That's how all the time pedals I've ever purchased come. Loose in the box. So it sounds like the pedals were shipped in the Time box properly.
The dates should make no difference.

I've bought 2 sets of pedals from them, one set was in a box, and one set was just in a bag with all the hardware. I'd guess (based on the price I paid) they were probably unused returns, or the box was damaged and the parts were still functional. But both pair are still going strong after a year and a half.

stole your bike
OCD: return them immediately
Non OCD: Don't worry about it and continue using.

You sure you didn't buy them on eBay? It would make a good story.

I've not had anyone inspect the dates on my pedals. I don't think it matters.

I'd be more worried that they're Time RXS pedals, but that's a personal bias - mine broke after about a year and a half of use. I've also heard many other complaints about the durability of the pedals and cleats.
In fairness to Time, I did have a crash right after I started using them when I couldn't clip out fast enough. This was the first time that happened to me with clipless pedals in about 20 years; I started on the old white LeMond-style Looks in the mid 80's. Time offered me a single replacement pedal at a discount as a customer loyalty appeasement. However, after the first one broke, I felt like the other pedal was just a ticking Time bomb (pardon the pun).

Packing is bad, I just received a cassette. Cassette was in a plastic baggie, it's fine, but no retail box, and no packing material in the shipping box. Nothing was damaged, and it was a good deal.
