I threw on some 700x25 Continental 4 Seasons, but the rear tire touches the underside of the brake! I'll try on some of Vittoria Corsas I have in the same size, but it looks like I may need some 700x23 tires...

Looks like this thread addresses the same issue:

https://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-m...clearance.html

Maybe it's just my tires (the 4 Seasons are a thicker tire for winter training). The thread recommended Vittoria Rubinos, so maybe my Corsas will work too...

The Corsas were a bit tight too, so I went ahead and ordered these:

The little screws on the back of the dropouts - play wth backing those out a bit and see if that gets you any more clearance, -- they look like they are in all the way in the pics (if you have already done that and they still rub, - disregard that then)

Great idea... not sure why I didn't think of that! I'll check...

Tried that, but it's still pretty tight against the brake. Should hopefully be fine with 700x23s. Don't want to go really old school and get 700x21 tires!

Update... The tires fit! But, man, they were hard to get on! I kept thinking of Tuco from Breaking Bad saying, "Tight, tight, tight!" I even punctured one of the tubes trying to get them on. Plenty of clearance now... And they look the part on the vintage frame. I'll post pics soon...

If you take out the rear screws on the dropouts and lightly file the front and rear drops and brake hangers you should be able to fit a set of 25' conti's which run pretty narrow.
I have set of 28's on one bike that run about 23-24 that has similar clearance to yours'.

Specialized offers several road tires in 700 x 24c and 26c. Black and tan walls. I’ve personally ridden the S-Works Turbo model and they are a terrific racing tire. Fast and comfy but do wear out pretty quick. I would guess the lower end models may last longer. The 24c could be a good tweener for OP’s Allez. All fairly pricey but currently on sale at special at specialized.com.

edit: Took another look at Specialized’s sale and it’s pretty strong. Road Sport for $22 and S-Works Turbo for $38. Both in 24c.

As promised, here is the photo of the final product... Tires feel very supple and lots of clearance!

Amazon has some American Classic tires cheap -- or did last time i was looking (juat looked again, they are up to $40 - which is a fair price, but not cheap anymore = a Comtinental GP is not much more

BTW - i responded earlier by saying i would pay up to $250 for that bike IF it fit -- for $120, you got an outstanding deal and this bike is worth putting some money into - its better than a "beater" . Your cleanup efforts look great
Having ridden this bike a few times, I agree that it's really much better than a beater. Despite its weight, it rides very smoothly and out-of-saddle acceleration is fantastic. The new tires are amazingly supple for being 700x23s. I think the low weight of the tires is adding to the ride feel as well...
