2x10 to 2x11

I'm sure this has been asked a bunch of times but I could not find it when I searched. Got a trek domane 4.5 is 2x10 and one of the shifters broke. Having a tough time finding 2x10 parts but there's a million 2x11. What would I need to do to convert to 2x11? Is it just as easy as replacing the parts? Would I need new wheels /hubs?

It's pretty much as easy as replacing some parts. Depending on what hubs you have and how old they are, some of the newer OEM Trek hubs are already set up for 11 speed and just have an extra spacer to run as 10 speed. The spacer just needs to be removed to install a 11 speed cassette. 10 speed freehub bodies are 34.95mm wide and 11 speeds are 36.75mm wide if you're not sure which type you have. If you have a 10 speed freehub, you'll need to switch it out for a wider 11 speed freehub. Some wheels this is an option and some older wheels, not so much. Other than an 11 speed cassette and compatable wheel, you'll need a chain and shifter for sure. 10 speed derailleurs will generally work as the pull ratios are the same. The front derailleur and chainrings will work ok as well. If you're on a tight budget, I made a video a couple of months ago on how to make an 11 speed system work with a 10 speed wheel if you're interested...

Look harder? be it SRAM, Shimano or even Campagnolo, 10 speed is not that HTF, maybe more limited in options, if you want new, of have specific requirement, like Shimano 4700, but it's still easy to find.

On the basis your runing Shimano , changing a 2x10 to 2x11, your going to need you to get most of a groupset, so hacking it together is pretty pointless.

You would need new (11 speed) shifters, front and rear derailleurs, cassette, chain, and probably a new rear wheel (if the wheel was 10 speed stock, it's unlikely that you can fit a 11 speed cassette, unless you, go 11-34 CS-R8000)

If you really want to go to 11 speed, would be looking at the current condition of the bike as a whole, and the cost of just buying a bike with 11 speed, and working out which is cheaper overall.

Shimano Tiagra is still 10 spd and the brifters are highly functional. Just a brief google suggests a set can be found new for ~$100-120 which for Shimano is cheap.

Yeah can find plenty of used parts, thanks you both pretty much answered my question. I'll keep looking for 10 speed parts
