I'm unconvinced it's better quality than what came with the bike, but it is sealed better. Just not real serviceable, like the one you have now.
On removing the fixed cup, some of them can be quite the chore on a French bike of this vintage. I use torch heat, ATF/acetone as a penetrating oil, and one of those Hozan fixed cup tools, and still have some difficulty with some of them. Which is why I'm a fan of not replacing them if the surfaces are still good. But I do use new bearings usually.

...if the bearing surfaces look OK, I woiuld just clean that cup in place, install new bearings with fresh grease, and reuse what's there. Having said that, the VO sealed bearing units are pretty good quality, possibly not as good as a Phil Wood, but well above average. I forget what lengths they come in for spindles. But if you really can't leave that one alone, you can get one that works.

I'm also breaking down a PX-10 and this is what I've decided to do. Cups look good, so it's clean, grease and reassemble.

That's lovely- certainly the paint is much better than on mine (I'm currently debating with myself about just accepting the 'patina' or entertaining the idea of repainting/having it repainted.....). What are the rims/hubs/wheels on there? And the fenders?

Jeez, never mind 'lovely' that PX-10 is beautiful... Those shots are now my inspiration! I wish mine had the drilled brake levers too (not to mention the paint in such great shape)..
And further, I love the brown bar tape. The Brooks on my PX10 is in really great shape and I like the saddle and tape to match (and I like Brooks saddles, so tape usually ends up some shade of brown!), but I was thinking, 'hmmm, I dunno, can a blue PX work with brown tape/black hoods.....? The answer clearly is 'yes'. Sorry, you'll have to pardon the drool I'm getting all over that bike...

There're 3 or 4 date codes on it... End of handlebar, RD jockey wheel cage, seat post....
Frames were all the same from the mid 60's through the mid 70's so the date doesn't matter so much. But it's early 70's based on the decals.

I wasn't actually trying to date the PX-10 with this thread- started and titled it before I went and bought it. Derailleur cage stamp puts it at '72. Actually has a 2 over the 72, but I don't know if the 2 means February, or if it denotes something else.

February of ‘72 for the derailleur thus ‘73 for the bike. Supply chain back then was nothing like today. It probably took a minimum of 6 months for the derailleur to make it to Peugeot then built onto a bike then shipped across the Atlantic.

Sacrilege to some, I know, but... the paint scrapes and chips on the frame are pretty substantial. Try to match the color with Testors or nail polish, lightly sand and 'touch up'? Leave as-is, with maybe some clear nail polish just to protect the bare spots? Go all-in and strip/repaint....

Actually, skip that last option- it was the photos of greg3rd48 's beauty that put the notion into my head, but that's more than I wan't to get into with this PX-10 at this time. So, the question is what to do to protect the bare metal at the paint-chipped spots..... light sand and clear nail polish?

Apparently IDing old Peugeots from the SN is iffy. Photos of the bike/details will get it ID'd pretty quickly here. I believe you should be able to create and album on your profile page, load a photo there and link to it..

On my PX10 I swapped in a 27" fork and I run 700x32 (34mm measured) Gravel Kings @50psi tubeless with mudguards. Rear brake bridge is the limiting factor on mine, but, without mudguards should fit 35's no probs.

ehcoplex brush on a little rust converter then head to the hobby shop with it for something close. Mine was soooooomuch worse than yours and while I enjoyed riding it with fresh paint (no decals), I wish that I didn't repaint it.

Hello everyone. I got this bike from a friend of mine. It has never been ridden in 30 years! Now I want to revive this bike. By the way, this bike looks like a PL8 model. The paint on it is the same as in the catalogue. I think it's a rare color. But from the serial number 223622, I could not find what year it was manufactured. The serial number is on the frame, and the tube carrying the seat is also written. Does anyone know what year it was produced? Also, which sites should I look at on the internet to find spare parts for this bike? Thanks....

Holy moly- pulled the freewheel and spoke protector off the crappy rear wheel that came on my PX-10..... This spoke protector weighs 1/3 of a pound!!
