Japanese Novara Randonee

I have a 1984 or 1985 Novara hanging in the rafters of my garage. My wife never rides it. It is all original and came with "Arabesque" components. It is "like new".
It has only a few hundred miles on it. It was ridden at a Great Western Bike Rally once, maybe twice (Paso Robles, CA).
To me, it is sad to have it just hang there, unused. I believe it would not sell for much and I am unwilling to list it for sale and have people come by to look.
P.S. - I am just chatting, not offering it for sale.

I've had several different late 80s-early 90s and most were Taiwan. The exception is this '92 Team.

My '89 Novara Trionfo road frame was made in Japan. Not a Randonee, but perhaps a related data point.

I have a like-new and original Japanese novara randonee with a full shimano deore DX 7-speed gruppo, bs-50 barcons, and 6400 brake levers on the nitto b-105/115 bars. The deore dx was renamed from mt-62 and spanned about 1989-1993, so I would place this one around 1990 or so.

87 is about right. Like many brands, production moved when the dollar/yen exchange and duty rates became less favorable.

It's not possible to make a blanket statement. The Novara were contract manufactured. The sources could and did change frequently. If you want to know about a specifc bicycle, there should be a country orign label on it. Baring that, the source can often be determined from the serial number format.

I suspect that it is actuially M1J. If so, the format is consistent with Miki of Japan. It could from any year ending in a "1" but it is most likely 1981, as that was that was Miki's era of greatest popularity. If you post photos, we should be able to corroborate the decade from the frame features.
