Moderators: please feel to remove this post, as I realize the content is questionable. But, this was indeed on a public street and "found" while riding. I did not pick it up, but I couldn't resist taking a picture. (Note the remote control off to the side...)





Best thing I ever found was a Dewalt band saw in a large case somewhere in Montana. CI tried to rig up a way to strap it to my back to get it to a post office, but it was heavy, and I was doing a fully loaded tour quite loaded down. Plus, it was a Sunday... I gave up carrying it pretty quickly and then tried to flag down motorists. Perhaps I looked threatening in my lycra shorts, but it took a while to get someone to stop -- none of the pickup trucks would-but eventually a group of Sunday worshipers did and agreed to donate it their church.

I never found anything worthwhile while riding. But a couple times I did leave a ziploc bag/box of cycling accessories at the park washroom station, marked Free. I believe one item was a portable bicycle stand I purchased from Amazon, had no use for it.

This chair made out of #2 pencils is on display at the Baltimore Museum of Art, so I guess that means it's art. Maybe that zip-tie one too!

Guess it is. Ironically, if you could actually sit in that pencil chair, it would be craft, not art. It's a weird world.

The Frozen 2 crocs I mentioned yesterday. Kindergartner sized. Whoever did this illustration for F2 was on point. It’s just really good. Disney used it a lot everywhere.

And finally a bag of garbage (not pictured). This would not normally be noteworthy but it was full of restaurant garbage like onion husks and tops of tomatoes. This was across a major street and down a hill from any restaurant in the middle of the bike path. It was torn wide-open. I wondered if an animal dragged it there but it would have to have been a big animal.

Been meaning to post here for a while. Not all of these are not commuting finds, but this is the best place for them. It's like a new hobby for me, I get in the flow and I start looking for things on the side of the road.


Found in the bushes on the bike trail, $40 Knog Blinder. Really good light. Had to order a new mount for it from Australia! (several years ago). Eventually the battery wire got loose, I had to take it apart and solder it back on, then seal it up, still works!


Recent find on a random road, Bontrager Ion 100, another $40 light. $5 mount and it's good to go for my daughter's bike.


Can never have too many multitools, right?

A totally random but very exciting to me parking pass from another country (yes, I know, but still - and I've actually been to Laval). Somewhere on 302 South approaching Crawford Notch in NH.


Brand new rifle cleaning kit, a VERY New Hampshire thing to find somewhere near Conway. I did not take it as I don't own a rifle and left it on the barrier.


Brand new pumpkin carving kit and stencils book literally 100 feet from the rifle cleaning kit (did someone lose a Walmart bag? Should've looked in the bushes). I did take this one for my daughter

And I can't find a picture of it, but my best yet disappointing find ever was a Gen3 Spot Satellite messenger - completely destroyed though. They're meant to be handled rough, but this one looked like it got run over by a tank, there was not a salvageable piece on it!

I found a wallet with a $17,600.00 check inside it. The check was made out to a local builder. I handed it over to the police. I figure it was left on top of a car the night before as I found it at about 5:30am on my way to work.

Sometimes I'll get a tool from my toolbox and remember "oh, I found this on route 79, in Madison, back in the '90s."

My wife would be peeved if she knew I can remember that and not what she told me the day before.

He said his wife will ride with him and dress in the red flannel like Steve Martin's character.

He actually did burn the roof off. However, he did it in a much more controlled manner so after the roof was gone he put the fire out and then finished enhancing the burn marks with paint.

He's on the look out for the correct wheel covers. Apparently they're very rare and cost $2k apiece, so he's just looking for someone who is selling a whole car and doesn't know what they have.
He also said that the trunk is a little taller than the original, so he's planning on cutting it down and reconstructing it. He's been in contact with John Candy's daughter who has the original trunk in storage, and is trying to get the exact measurements from her.

And yes, the radio is clear as a bell.

I have a Stanley 199 like that. It was my grandpa's. In the diamond knurl area of mine, it has remnants of an orange-ish paint.
