Finally got the wheelset on the bike, and it looks pretty damn sharp if you ask me! Unfortunately I didn't get to ride today due to the weather, and I may have a last minute obligation tomorrow morning to further delay the maiden ride on the wheels. There is little doubt that they will fail to meet the hype! I couldn't be anymore thrilled with my prospects.

I have the vitesse with original logo's. As far as asthetics go, I'm definitely not a fan of the new logos. Still a great wheel but to me they take on a kind of cheap look that I don't think they had before. Performance wise, you should like them. Overall looks nice (sorry to be negative, just preferre my style decals)

it's a newer wheel. your wheel is a 30mm x 19mm wheel. Mine is 28mm x 23mm. The boyd logos are scanned on as opposed to your old style.

I don't know enough about wheels to understand the difference in componentry, but they basically wanted to make it more aero. Its still a sub 1500g set. I dropped the rear wheel off at a bike shop to have the cassette installed on it, and all of the techs were pretty impressed with it.

Ohhh lol... I had the Mavic Aksiums that came with the bike. So I took close to a pound off the bike in just changing the wheels. The only other upgrade I'm going to do is switch the 105 pedals to speedplays.

Guessing these are built around the A23 rim, or another 23mm rim? Don't appear to be the Hed Belgium, at least not at that price. I am very much looking forward to trying out my HED Belgium wheels in a few weeks. Look forward to hearing what you think of the new wheels.

Nope, we had used the A23 for a little while in our Black and Tan clincher. It's a nice rim, but we wanted to go deeper than 19mm and still have the wider rim profile. Plus their rims were coming in way over listed weight so we were able to go deeper and only gain about 7-10 grams.

I have these wheels as well. The 23mm wide rim is amazing with my 25mm wide GP4000s. Without a doubt the most comfortable wheels I've ever had. Also they weight in at 1478g.

I've got the same bike and ordered the same wheels to replace the same as the OP. I received them this week and took them out for a ride. This is what I posted in the "Most recent purchase.." thread. "Since they are 23mm wide rims, I had to adjust my brakes out a little, and I didn't need the innermost spacer on the cassette when I moved it over. The freewheel on the Vitesse is a lot quieter than on the Aksiums."

I'm don't think I'm in tune enough with the finer points of the difference in ride quality between the Vitesse and Aksiums, but I'm going to adjust the air pressure down a little to see if I can feel a difference.

I've got a couple hundred miles on the new Vitesse and I'm super happy with the ride - they're pretty amazing IMO. I've never felt so connected or confident on clinchers, before.

However, they are NOT sub-1500g wheels...

I'm surprised to hear you say this...when I received my wheels, I contacted Nicole @ Boyd to let you guys know, my wheelset came in "significantly" over weight (about 73g over advertised). It was explained to me 40g of this was the rim strips (understandable), and the other part was that the rims themselves are coming in overweight. She told me you'd be updating the website to reflect the higher weights - this hasn't happened, yet. It's been great dealing with you guys, but I'm a little put off by this. Am I missing something?

Well, now I'm even more confused. Your wheels weighed exactly what Boyd quoted them as? Did you remove the rim strips?

Did I get an abnormally heavy build, somehow?

I swear I'm not trying to be a $@&*...I do LOVE the wheels, it's just that the weight confusion and seeming apathy about correcting the advertising is nagging me.

The PSI makes all the difference. I'm coming from Aksiums and Fulcrum 7s, and I've dropped 10 PSI both front and rear, with the Vitesse (vittoria open corsa evo SC tires, fwiw). I'm ~155lbs and have been trying 97f/103r. It's fantastic.

No.....don't tell me this. I ordered the same wheels, and those 33 extra grams will be the difference between me being a recreational cyclist and a pro.

another possibility: your scale or that of others is not that accurate.

I've seen a lot of folks using the harbor freight gram scale. I do not have one, but I've got some other tools from there, and I wouldn't bet my life on a scale from there or anything of similarly low quality (and correspondingly low price).

I was going by the advertised weight. wheels should be within a +/-5% weight margin and if you're are 33g overweight (73g minus the 40g for rim strips) you're well within the 5% of advertised weight. In fact, even with the rim strips your right at +5%.

Also, I'm sure its having zero impact on any aspect of your riding

HTFU. if this problem routinely happens, I suggest throwing out the gram scale altogether. weighing every component out of curiosity is fine. seriously worrying about claimed vs actual with this low % of variance is just not worth it.

maybe. fwiw, I use a Feedback Sports scale. I've weighed a lot of parts and have never had cause to think it's inaccurate.

Also, the Boyd customer service rep did not question the weights I measured.

Alright, let me clarify my point. It's simply that I a) noticed that the wheels were overweight, and reported this to Boyd and b) Boyd said that they confirmed the rims were coming in a little heavier than they thought. They said they'd update the website to reflect this. They haven't.

Yes, we're talking about a paltry amount of grams, especially for a non-WW clincher. Do you actually disagree that Boyd shouldn't advertise a very specific weight they know to be incorrect?
