Do any of you guys who yard sale and thrift more than me, which is none, ever see any of those cheap fixie bikes around? Perhaps it is just Fort Wayne but I don't seem to see any on craigs list or even the bay.

Just before I sold my Motobecane Phantom Uno I had the idea to put my IGH wheels set on it to make it more practical. Now I don't seem to see any of thos sorts of bikes listed, not that they would be dirt cheap, does anyone else see these.

The only names I can remember are of course the Phantom Uno, sigle spped with cantilever, the Mercier Kilo, TT FG, or the more expensive Bianchi San Jose. But almost everyone was cranking them out right?

Anyone see them around?

The fixie scene seems to have dried up a bit. Probably still going but most people are probably back at normal road bikes or gravel bikes. I still come across "fixiefied" bikes on local craigslist but they are getting rare.

My town never caught the fixie virus (too many hills!) I see used ones for sale regularly on CL two towns over in Port Townsend, which has a larger concentration of hip- and hip-adjacent artistic types. From the asking prices, I think it's mostly people who paid too much for them new, then decided riding fixed was too hard. (Like new! Very few miles! Must sell for full retail price!!!)

Still quite a few available in Philly. It seems likely that they still have a purpose in more urban, dare I say "hip", areas. Lots of cheap junky fixies but a few nice models pop up on CL now and again.

The trend is over All the "Fixies" are gone,, they somehow mysteriously turned into "Track " bikes now.

Likely the seller in the used market has no chance against the boat loads of new on Amazon. Many under $200. Spend more for name brand Cinelli or Raleigh... probably all sharing the same factories.

I see them quite regularly (a friend picked one up for 15$ at a thrift last year, and they show at the Goodwill auction regularly). But this is a town with one of the nation's larger art schools. There's probably a couple or more right now on the local CL, which I never check.

We still have them here in NYC, though the trend has cooled off a bit. I think they will always hold a following here. There is a section of Brooklyn called Red Hook. There is a Red Hook Criterium held on the streets on track bikes. It's one of the most dangerous races, and now they have official Red Hook Criterium races in other cities. I saw a video of one in a big Italian city.

Fixed gear makes sense for some bike commuters and couriers. And we have a velodrome.

As predicted a good while ago the Fixie-Fad has faded away while the devotees of truly obsolete hardware and Old School club cyclists continue as they have for well over a century to ride FG on the open public roads.The detritus of cheapo fixiedom will provide a bit of unsalable litter on online junk sites until consigned without any regret to be recycled.

I'm 1/2 in Atlanta GA and, 1/2 in Fernandina Beach FL. I could count on 1 hand the number of fixies I've seen in Atlanta. Too hilly. I've never seen a fixie in Fernandina. But, my daughter attended college in Charleston SC ten years ago. I remember going inside a store in downtown Charleston that only sold single speed bikes. In pretty colors. But, that was about ten years ago. .......................

There is a bike store in Denton Texas (60) miles from me that sells quite a few fixies. Last time I was in there they probably had a dozen. Most of them made from 70's steel bikes. That's been a couple of years. I looked on their site and they show two in their pictures but I don't know if that's their current inventory. Denton is a college town

I still see plenty of cheap fixed gears and single speeds at the shop and I also occasionally see high quality ones usually from employees or looking at some of my own bikes.

There are also plenty of sites/companies pumping out plenty of low quality FG/SS bikes. Bikes Direct is one of those companies and they had the smart idea to buy out old names to give their stuff some false prestige.

I bought a fixed gear (2014 Specialized Langster) last weekend in San Francisco for a great price. S.F. has long been a fixie hot spot. I don't see it slowing down.

I've heard the refrain that riding fixed or single speed is simply too impractical here in Seattle. And this is from LBS guys that have ridden them and would ride them if they could. Too many hills and intense traffic. The only fixed gear bikes I like are purebred track machines, and I still don't own one. We have Marymoor Park and it's 1/4 velodrome (used for plenty of racing) and I have a car....I just don't have a track bike because I love gears and the convenience of riding them starting right outside my doorstep.

There are two Schwinn Paramount track bikes for sale here and in Portland, in my very tall size. If I'm riding a track bike, I'm riding C&V history. I could swing the price, I just can't swing the space. Maybe I should remedy that.....

Snapped this up, at a yard sale, for $40.00 and it was brand new, unridden and in original shape...


Sold it a couple of days later, looking like this at the buyer's request, for $250.00...


Not a very good bicycle and terrible ride quality. But it does look the part.

There are still a few Wyatt fixies banging around La Crosse, WI (Wyatt's headquarters are local, and I think this area was a bit late to the fixie party). I think Wyatt discontinued their single speed model a year or two ago to focus on MTBs.

Yes I am thinking of going that route, I kind of want rear facing dropouts this time but would consider horizontal, I just don't want to worry about a chain tension-er.

Fat tires are good for snow and sand but "Bike Life" is big now. 24/26/29 BMX bikes ridden by 40s-50s year olds. SE Racing being the most ridden as they flashy and reasonably priced. But Haro, Gary Turner-Gt, and many others all have adult bikes out. Honestly its blast being able to ride the bikes you has as a kid in adult size. I've even regressed back to 20" (NS) a bit to hone my riding.

Pure Fix, State, and a few other cheap fixie factories are still around. Soma, Surly, and All-City all still make medium quality fixed gear frames.

I'm sharing this link from back in the days when people still read BSNYC's blog because I loved the idea of the PistaDex: Bike Snob NYC: BSNYC Fixed-Gear Apocalypse Watch: The PistaDex

The current PistaDex in Portland looks like its about $643, but that's being bolstered by two Super Pistas. I'm not certain of how to read that, but I think the fixed gear apocalypse has come and gone.

Another way to look at it, if I search "fixed gear" on PDX CL I get 25 results. As a comparison to establish scale, if I search "Huffy" I get 33 results.

I've got an old beat-up Schwinn Voyageur in my garage with a flip/flop rear wheel. There was a time when that would have been money. Now I probably couldn't give it away.
