Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just talked to Dale Saso, the framebuilder who's making the fork from the 24" Circuit frame fit the 23" Circuit frame, so I can transfer all the bits from the 22" Circuit to it and make it a 23" Circuit. He's got the fork on the lathe, ready to thread, but he has to make sure he's in The Zone, because he's not just cutting new threads, he's continuing the threads from above. Says he should be done by later today. I could have the frame(s) and fork back before the weekend! I could be building up this bike soon!!!!!

Honestly, scaffolding would not do any good. You could not reach the roof from a scaffold.

Now, I will admit that they were not OSHA compliant in a number of ways.

When my brother lived in North Carolina, he worked for the Consulting side of the NC version of OSHA, which he found somewhat frustrating because if he saw flagrant safety violations, all he could do is advise. And it's not like North Carolina had enough people in enforcement, either. This is the state where 25 workers died in a fire in a chicken processing plant, because the fire doors were locked so employees wouldn't steal product.

When they moved to Hawaii, he worked for HIOSH, the Hawaii equivalent, but in Compliance. That was better because he had enforcement authority, and he could ding unsafe worksites. One down side was that he also had to do fatality investigations, which could be rather upsetting.

The fatalities are tough. I've been involved in a few.

I've given some away as well, and sold some others. I like to donate things to San Diego Velo Youth, a local non-profit that supports at-risk youth by getting them on the velodrome track and teaching them some basic team building and goal setting skills. Great program.

Ugh. More bad news. So in May I knew I was going to bus school. Most training with my airline takes place in Texas. The bus school one has the option of doing it in Charlotte or Texas. This was a huge reason why I picked the Bus, so that I could do training in Charlotte. 4 hour drive vs 19 hour drive.

Well got my training schedule today and much to my dismay I am in Texas. Worse, my schedule makes it pretty much impossible to go home, so I will be down there for a month. I tried putting my foot down but quickly learned that means nothing. Lily is really upset, and honestly I felt sick to my stomach.

I was really looking forward to doing some crits in Charlotte as well as riding with some people I met last summer.

Told Lily that I will have to drive it. A. I get super stressed out on training and don’t need to be relying on other people to get me where I need to go. B. I’m not not having a bike for that long. C. Honestly have no idea how I would pack for 30 days, and I don’t have a bike case. Ritchey isn’t set up for travel currently.

I'll do a metric with you. Will just need a few days to do it. 🤣
