I found a wierd one at a yard sale today. The down tube simply says 'Conours', the top tube 'Professional', and the chainstays have 'Huffy' in smll letters. It does not look like any huffy I have ever seen. Lugged steel frame, red/black nicely painted with gold trim paint about the lugs. Suntour/Diacomp components, french hubs. The only 'Huffy-ness' about it are the 27" wheels and the safety levers.

Can anyone tell me what this is. Its in fine shape spare being in a barn for 20 years or so. I was going to convert it to a fixed gear (and return my Gitane Super Course back to orginal spec), but I'd kinda like to know what I'm working with first (wish I had with the Gitane). Thought in good shape, I am going to tear it apart in at lead re-pack every thing.

I guess y'all are stumped too. If this bike is nothing special, then I'm going to hack it down to a fixed gear.

Darn the lack of information. I just came back from the Goodwill and they had this exact bike on the floor. I set out today to try to find a project bike to rebuild and was tempted, but decided to do some research first.

The bike has Suntour VX rear dérailleurs, center pull brakes, ally crank and steel 27" wheels.

From my little bit of knowledge I think those Huffy's are Carlton rebranded bikes. Could be wrong

I have spent some time on it, and talked to most of the decent LBS guys. The best guess is it was built by Motobecane in '84, but I have not been able to confirm this.

So I went back to the Goodwill and picked up the bike. I liked the juxtaposition of 'huffy' and 'professional' and felt that the bike was good enough to fix up as a bike to knock around town on.

I just finished taking the intro classes at the local bike co-op and took the bike down to start the transformation. When I went there yesterday, imagine my surprise as its twin was there in a bunch of bikes that they had just gotten from the police department. I no longer have the only Huffy Professional in Cleveland, but I am determined to make it as spiffy as possible.

There were Raleighs rebranded as Huffys for a time right? It sure looks like a Raleigh frame. Looks nice.

I think Huffy at various times sourced bikes from other manufacturers. I have a Carlton Catalina with Huffy downtube decals and headbadge.

As far as the ike goes it does look "Motobecaneish" to me esp. with the color bands on the seattube. While certainly not unique, Noto used that style alot.

I'm getting the same bike tomorrow and am wondering if anyone has uncovered more information about them? The frame doesn't look all that "huffy" to me but I don't really have a lot to base that on. Any other information about the Huffy Professional Concours would be appreciated.

From my best guess, it's a 1962. Huffy Sports(man) made in England all over it, as if
anyone couldn't tell.

The Professional wasn't the Carlton-built model. Here's a pic of one of those. A BF member, saturn2c, owns a Pro in mint condition. If we can get ahold of him he can give us the lowdown on them.

I am slowly fixing up my Huffy Concours. I did a little clean up, threw on a pair of Nashbar peddles and seat that I had along with a front light and back back blinky and have taken it on a few 3-10 miles rides. Even with the crappy tires and steel wheels it is a fun ride.

I'd love to find one of these, don't know just why, other than having a "Huffy" thats a rideable, useable, road bike would be pretty darn awesome. I'd leave all the Huffy markings on it too.

after getting a feel for how it rides I'm thinking about picking up one that is still a 10 speed (I assume that's what it was) and fixing it up. It rides very smooth and you would never guess it for a huffy. The only problem I'm having is finding a new seat post. The post that came with it is extra short and an odd size so I don't have any extras laying around.

Ok I have had a change of plans for my Huffy. It is a nice bike but I now have a Schwinn Super LeTour 12.2 and a rough condition tandem that will be taking up my time. So my question is -- Do you think that the frame on these is good enough that someone looking to make a single/fixie would be interested? I can use some of the parts (the seat/peddles) on the tandem and I have a friend who could use a set of free tires.

I am trying to decide if I should part it out or just sell it as is. The tandem takes up so much room that I have to open up some space in the garage.

I don't like to see a nice (working, classic) bike parted out.
I say see if you can trade for parts or something, and if someone makes it a fixed gear, let them know that you'd like it if they didn't make the fix irreversible, and that you'll take the leftover parts.
