Picked up a brochure at our LBS, and am thinking about ordering one. At least I'd have some sort of ID if I forget my license and something happens.
Which model did you get if so?

Spin off question: do you take your driver's license for ID & credit card with you when commuting?

I am car-free but I do carry my drivers license as an ID. I also carry a wallet with my health insurance card, bank cards. I keep my wallet inside one of my pockets or inside a neck pouch.

I just recently got a Road ID. I got the lower end model with the Velcro-like strap. I'd probably go up a model from that if I had it to do over. Though I do always carry my wallet when I ride, commute or not.

I wear one on every ride. Yes, I usually have my wallet, but it's in my backpack if I'm commuting or occasionally in a bento box on my top tube, so if something horrible were to happen, it might not be near me when EMTs arrive.

Yep. My buddy's wife made him get one after a hard crash.
Seemed like a good idea to me, so I got one, too. Wear it every ride.
Having a wallet is one thing. Having contact info readily displayed is better. It also has space for medical alerts and organ donor status.

Yes. A friend who is a firefighter/emt said that they will look for medical bracelets long before they start looking through your backpack/saddlebag/jersey pockets.

I wear mine for every ride. I bought the rubber one. I was concerned if the velcro one got wet it would take a while to dry. Here in Seattle there is a lot of wet.

Those are the reasons I have a RoadID. Velcro wrist strap, traditional printed, not interactive.

I bought the 'poor man's' Road ID... a set of dog tags from the local army surplus store. I have Contact information and blood type on the tags. I also carry a DL with me.

Just an FYI, the rubber band model is cut to fit so it will fit small wrists.

Just got new dog tags for spouse and myself. I wear mine 24/7 and she wears when riding - on chains around neck. $5.50 apiece. Road ID is overkill UNLESS one has significant medical or other issues.
I carry wallet in bag on bike, too.
Once again---> no need for blood type if cycling in the "civilized" world. Healthcare workers will pay it no mind.

Yes, though whether I use it depends upon which bike and why I am going for a ride. If it is errands/shopping then I have my wallet and don't need it.

True story (and I swear I have no connection to Road ID)

Last year I had a friend who had a heart attack while on a ride home alone at night, he got off his bike and staggered for a while and was nowhere near his bag or his bike by the time he collapsed. A passersby discovered him and stared CPR, then EMT's arrived and revived him. His Road ID was all they had to go on. A that point they are NOT going to go through your bag if they can even find it, they are going to get you to the hospital. Your stuff and you bike gets left behind. He did get his bike back about a month later, as a nearby resident grabbed it and took the time to find him through the local bike community)

Anyway... His road ID was key to identifying him and getting in touch with his friends and relatives. Had he not had it on it might have taken days for them to figure out where he was and what happened to him. Long story short, All is well now. He's doing great, and I have worn mine on every ride since.

I wear mine about 90% of my waking hours if I am away from my home, cycling or not. Just makes sense, if I have it I might as well wear it.

This is correct. Due to liability issues 99% of the time you will get crossmatched before they give you any blood products.

I have a road ID, but I tend to only wear it when I am on a longer ride. My wrists have taken a lot of damage over the years from various things and wearing anything on it while riding seems to aggravate my wrists a lot of the time. It is in my large saddlebag next to my wallet, so first responders should find it along with my wallet when they get to that point. It's got my girlfriends phone number on it as well as my fathers, and my name. Sometimes I strap it to the outside of my saddlebag.

I have my wife's name and cellphone conspicuously on the outside top of my helmet. That is a habit I started on my motorcycle helmet.

I wonder if EMT's will look there? What do you think?

(I don't have any medical conditions, or I'd put them on the helmet too.)

Hmm, I looked at the Road ID and it seems like a good idea. Question though - anyone know if the steel info plate can be slipped onto a rubber watch band so I could wear it with my watch? I'm not wanting multiple things around my wrists.

I have both my DL and CHL along with contact numbers on my helmet. I'm still thinking about getting the velcro road ID though for the aforementioned reasons. In Texas, you MUST have your legal id to get off of your property so I always have them unless I screw up. However, I do screw up. In hot weather, I'm wearing a (1983) Performance wallet pouch so my wallet is strapped to my body. If cool weather, my wallet is in on of the jersey or jacket pockets. I still like the idea that the wrist strap would announce information, though.

As a displaced Texan I somehow feel obligated: this is mostly hyperbole. You don't have to carry ID in Texas, but the cops can make it unpleasant if you don't.

As for the Road ID, I carry my wallet so I don't see the point. If I wanted to carry something for emergency medical folks, it would be bandages, gown and sling, pain relievers so that I wouldn't get gouged so bad in the ER.

No, I don't see the point either, as I always have my wallet with me. It might make sense if I had a drug allergy or particular medical condition, I suppose.
