I switched over to commuting on my Surly Long Haul Trucker instead of my Cinelli road bike at the end of July. Day one I swung by the Lakefront with zero intent to bag a TriGeek as my Trucker is not exactly the fastest horse in the barn.

Just by chance a lone geek persisted in overtaking me eastbound with a nice tailwind. Eventually, when I thought he looked tired enough (in my rear-view mirror), I let him roll in front of the camera. The rest, as they say, is history - recorded for your enjoyment.

Never been into racing just a commuter/tourer, but few seem to realize that people who ride (sometimes lots of miles) every day aren't to be written off.

...edited to add, that's a nice looking LHT.

Ouch, passed by a guy with a basket! The only way you could make this any more embarrassing would be to fill the basket with milk jugs, oranges, etc. before you go.

In any case, this guy will likely never be back, at least not in the same outfit.

I hope we are past that by now. Most of the questions have been answered.

Been waiting YEARS to use it. Finally had the perfect opportunity present itself. I started singing it in my head while rounding that last curve and knew I would use it.

Yeah, some of the fastest riders I know are car free and forced to ride everywhere, in all weather, no matter how they feel at the time. Most of the local TriGeeks ride to their training grounds (and everywhere else) in air conditioned comfort on four wheels.

Thanks! If I could only keep one bike, my LHT would be the one, hands down, no debate.

I think a barking Toy Poodle with painted toe nails would be even better.

BTW...did you notice the Electra hibiscus print flowered fenders?

I switched the visor with another color. I have the visor from a blue helmet on the bright green one. The green color is not so yellowish as this photo. More like a neon "Kelly" green.

It's been done. Lack of video evidence has kept me from mentioning it previously. 30 psi makes the tires rock hard and it is surprising to my friends who ride with me how able the Pugs is to keep up at moderate speeds. The main problem using it for geek hunting is my gearing. I run out of top end and have to spin like crazy over 20 mph.

Anyway, it's gonna happen on film one day I promise you.

Very nice LHT. It looks very practical and functional. Love the colour and the top tube protector and the camo handlebar wrap.

Obviously this is my main commuter/utilitarian bike - the camo tape is a constant reminder that I am at "war" out there in traffic and to keep alert and my head on a swivel.

BTW...the LHT is set up (saddle/bars/pedals) exactly the same as my road bike, so swapping back and forth is not some huge transition. The LHT is like a medicine ball to a basketball player. After humping along with traffic on a 35lb bike with cushy tires for a while my road bike feels like it is full of helium when I get on it.

I was wondering this morning why you picked the Long Haul Trucker over the Crosscheck? It seems like that would be a better bike for hammering over potholes and rough pavement.

I also do long distance touring, sometimes a few months at a time but mostly weekends right now. Trucker also accepts 26" tires so before 29 became so prevalent the trucker accepted off road tires better than a Crosscheck which, if I am not mistaken, only was available in 700C at the time.

I knew he was gonna crack like an egg at the levee crossing! It's kinda cruelly funny! He started spinning so fast I thought his chain fell off.

But, JB, I have a pro triathalon woman friend who is aware of your hunting grounds, and she's planning a trip to NOLA soon anyway. She might just take her tri-bike and full geek regalia along for a "Joey hunt" on the weekend- I'll post a copy here if it's successful:

I have never been Chicked, although I know the day is coming. The girls at the lakefront have actually come the closest in the past. Some have pushed me really hard the entire five miles.
