Attach Additional Water Bottle to Frame w/out cage
I know about the various options to mount additional cages like the ones on the seat post or handle bars, but I'm wondering about a quick way to attached just a water bottle (like the ones you buy at a convenience store) for the occasions when two just isn't enough and options to refill are rare. I thought about velcro straps and just hang it under the top tube but that might sway or not stay well. I was wondering if anyone came up with anything that works particularly well. Again, not wanting to mount additional cages or carry in a jersey pocket. Thanks.

My solution isn't quite what you're looking for, but maybe it'll help.
I sweat more than your average person, so I drink more than average. As a result, I need more fluid on longer rides.
I have two different cages. One is your standard small lightweight cage that holds your standard bottle. The other is a wal-mart level cage made of some cheap metal. I can bend it a bit and squeeze pretty big bottles in there, and they stay on all but the roughest of bumps. I generally will put a 22oz bottle in the small cage & a 32 oz Powerade or Gatorade bottle in the metal one.
This is similar to what I use.

Camelbak sounds like a good option. I wonder though if it puts enough pressure on your back after a long ride that you start feeling it.

Not entirely sure what this is. Have a link or image?
More than the pressure, I don't like how it prevents sweat from evaporating. I find them uncomfortable and the added weight on the back isn't a plus either.

$5 on Scambay, including postage. They also make just the QR mount so you can supply your own (presumably better quality) cage, I just bought one of those for $2.50 from the bay for my daughter's bike as it does not have water bottle bosses/mounts.

+1, except the bottle doesn't need to be disposable. Once empty it weighs next to nothing in your jersey pocket. On longer hot rides I take three bottles, two on the bike and one in the middle pocket of my jersey. I'll either drink that one first or swap it with the first bottle I empty off the bike.

We have a winner. When I go on rides that I know I can't refill and two bottles are not going to be enough I bring my 70oz cycling Camel back. You get used to having it on and who cares if its "not cool". Plus it gives you extra space to carry more gels/bars/food.

I think the profile by design, behind the seat bottle cages are a better design to the axiom, at least they don't look as ugly.
Not sure about the mounting stress on the saddle rails if you have CF rails.

One liter Smartwater bottles fit right in a cage. They have a regular cap but if you buy a 700ml bottle it comes with the mouthpiece thingy you can put on the larger one. Something to think about. Two liters of water is enough for most any metric century or less ride I'll do.

I appreciate the humorous and somewhat practical suggestions. I think what might work best is one of the mounts that attaches to the seat post. Something like this.

I have seen a place selling a bag that hangs from the top tube and contains a water bladder. I don't think it's Camelbak-branded but it's something similar. So with two bottle cages on the seat tube and down tube and another three litres hanging from the top tube you could be carrying 4.5 litres of water with you.
