Peugeot 12 speed
I would like to learn more about a bicycle that I bought new in 1984, but has been in storage for over 20 years. I just joined the forum, so I am not allowed to post photos yet (silly rule actually).

Chiming in before a moderator tells you not to do that...
You can obviously reply to other posts in the various forums, and also why not tell us a bit more in words about what you can observe of the bike? That way people can read about it even before you're able to post photos, and your posts are not just the bare minimum.

Thank you cb400bill! I will refrain from useless posts, but I have 3 or 4 private messages that I can’t access either. :-(

Not likely. Living in California at 22 was more conducive to a bike commute that 59 in Oregon. If the roads were safer for bikes, maybe an ebike would work for a few months a year.

The above is correct. I've worked on at least two (maybe 3?) of this exact same bike. Wheelset is great, mechs are good, shift levers require a cable with unusually small head, which the $10-12 Schwinn all-in-one cable kit on Amazon happens to have. If you plan on rehabbing any of this yourself, I recommend checking in on the regular Classic & Vintage forum for advice, I won't be posting that here.
Value as it sits, $100-175 in my market. Once fully overhauled and refreshed, $275-325 is usually what these mid-ish level Carbolite-tubed Puegeots go for in the ATL area. You can fudge a little on bar tape and tires if they're "good enough". If you need replacement rubber hoods for the brake levers, Cane creek has pairs that are "good enough".

That is exactly what I need to move forward. Thank you.

Just one other point to make SDReames
While these early 80s models pop up periodically, it's usually never more than one every 12-18 months so seeing a couple in short succession is odd. I was scouring this forum because I know I commented on one of the same year and approximate size recently. I just didn't realize it was in another subforum, in this specific reply.
I see that bike is still available and a classic case of "location, location, location". This one is in NorCal, same year/make/model/color. It's been sitting for 16 days on this listing, started at $100, now dropped to $90. If this person were closer to a major city, it would've sold on day 1 at the original $100 price. Link to CL post: https://siskiyou.craigslist.org/bik/...308550856.html
If you were at the buying end of things, you may be able to use this info to haggle the price down to $75.
If you're on the selling end of things, you could use one or both of the following eBay sales to justify a price up the $175 end of things should you kick in the tires with the deal:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/265120867323
https://www.ebay.com/itm/363329208363
Again, your local market (depending on your city) plays a huge impact. There still seems to be a little bit of Covid bike boom afterglow, but I expect that'll fade fast as people are racing to get shots.
