Ultegra 2x11 compatible front derailleur with top pull?
Hi! I'm at wit's end! I have an Ultegra R8000 groupset that came with a bottom pull front derailleur. Turns out my frame needs a top pull. Can someone please point me in the direction of a front derailleur, band mount, 34.9, that will be compatible with my shifter/setup? I don't care if it's XT or 105 or Ultegra. Thanks so much.I should also add my largest chainring is 46t.

You may be able to find a NOS CX50 or CX70. They are 10 speed but I know people have used 10 speed FDs with 11 speed groups. Does your frame not have provision for a pulley? That would be cheaper than a new FD.

While I’m not looking for a top pull, I am interested in the amount of front cable pull the new 11 speed road front shifters have. I have read the newer shifters pull more cable for the front derailleur. If it is anywhere close to the longer cable pull of the older Shimano mtb FD’s it might work; but it is a SWAG.
I’m not advocating that it will work, but if you have a top pull 34.9 mtb FD lying around it might be worth a try. If pretty close, it might be possible to run an alternate cable attach similar to what people have been doing for years on RD’s.
The other thing is the amount of fudge with a double FD, and if an older setup with less tension works with newer road shifters.
John
Edit added: Maybe a 2x10 XT M786. Should work with your 46t. Cable pull compatible… only one way to find out.

If this is a standard round frame, you can try this pulley.
I also don't the tooth count will be a significant factor; FWIW I have a 38t on a Ultegra f derailleur with no issues.

I think I have a lead to a possible a solution, but you will have to find out what FD is being used. (Added… REI lists it as a Deore FD-M6025. Is there a compatible XT FD???)
Salsa sells a Fargo Tiagra that is equipped with Tiagra 4700 drop bar shifters with a Tiagra 4700 RD and a Deore FD which is top pull.
From my research Tiagra 4700 shifters are compatible with GRX 10/11 and Ultegra 11 speed RD's and FD's. You should research the 4700 10spd vs R8000 11sp FD compatibility. Shimano docs are not going to show compatibility, you'll need to read threads.
I don't know enough about the Salsa specs, but if Salsa is specing a road shifter with a top pull mtb FD, then they have to know something that we may not know. No one sells a new bike with an incompatible drivetrain.
Good luck and have fun.

I thought they were all dual pull now, but I can't tell from the pictures or the dealer instructions, where to route the cable for the top pull.
