Mafac brake lever help

I was given a Peugeot mixte in decent shape. Been putting it back together, and the original Mafac brake levers are bent and broken. Can I get replacement levers, or do I have to find a set of 23.5 roadster levers? I like the look of the Mafacs, but I want to turn a profit on this bike.[IMG][/IMG]

It is a flip?. Just get some used levers from the co-op bin. I would not use those plastic levers. I'm not sure I would sell a bike with plastic levers.

On the rebuild of my wife's Peugeot, we switched from drops to a city bar, and used these Tektro brake levers.Tektro FL750 City Brake Levers for 22.2 dia Bars - Levers - Brakes & Parts - Components

Good info. The bars are 23.5 mm, might be able to shim them. When I sell a bike, I always assume I'll have to face the new owner down the line.

God bless the French, God damn their components.

You may swear at French components, but clean Peugeot U-18 mixtes are gold. There has been some fall off in mixte demand since Velouria of lovelybike fame went hardcore and moved to Ireland and @Doohickie stopped updating his mixte blog, but mixtes still do well.

Make it pretty with whitewalls, cork grips, and a wicker basket and unload if for $300-$325. Maybe not in OC except on the UCI campus, but definitely in Jane Fonda land or Pasadena. Not my best work, but it was a high dollar sale.

I previously had an '82 a few years back. I met with a dopey college girl & her splendid mommy. Mom fell in love with the bike and would have bought it to ship to New York. Dopey ended up buying it. The original white grips are in good shape. I have a wood wine crate from a French winery. It's going on the rack, need to find a basket. Holding out for bux, want to make it worth it.

Flying Merkel-

I have used them and those plastic Mafac levers are diabolical. They hurt the fingers while braking and are squishy/flexy under load. Replace them with period Weinmanns and you are good, especially if you are re-selling.

IIRC, I have a similar story regarding the blue Peugeot above. I got an email from a Denver mom asking to see the bike and if I was on the route between La Guardia and Vasser in Poughkeepsie. I said I was headed that way to the ADK and could deliver for her daughter. Got paid via PayPal. Turns out mom was the bicycle advocate for Denver's mayor.
