Just picked up this 1985 or 1986? Univega Alpina Uno Mixte in HOT PINK! Original owner bought it to ride with her husband, but she wasn't really a trail riding gal, so it sat a lot. Original everything except tires. It fits me great, so I'm gonna overhaul and ride...Suntour everything, rims are anno black - I think Ukai.

Thanks. I'm so excited. I have been sarcastically telling Mr. VV that I would buy him a pink mixte , and now I've finally found one! It's for me though....
The daughter was selling for her parents and said, "My dad said he'd be willing to sell for $50" - the CL ad said "$75.
Headset is loose and cables/housings need replacing asap, but it stopped raining here, so I just want to ride around.

Lol, well Mr. VV will have to wait.
Great deal you got! When someone needs to let something go, they'll go for whatever price. Those are the great deals.
Easy fixes for you. Let us know how it rides and enjoy!

I bought this '85 Stumpjumper at the local swapmeet for $25. Both front and rear hubs were cracked, but the nice Flag components & Deerhead derailleurs were in great shape. Sold the components on Ebay, but kept the frame, fork, and seatpost. I found a Peugeot city bike in the trash and used the parts to rebuild the frame.

Judging by the wear on the original components, the Stumpy didn't get a lot of use before the hubs disintegrated. I hit the local swapmeet up 2-3 weekends a month. There's a lot of great $25 bikes there, too bad they want $150 for them.

Mark does still build frames in very limited numbers. His current offerings are based around a special tubing that he had Reynolds make for him and his own investment-cast lug set. I'm not sure he would be interested in reproducing your fork for you but if he is interested it will cost you much more than you have invested in the whole bike so far.

I'd be willing to pay possibly up to $300 for a custom tange/Reynolds or similar non lugged fork with the correct geometry and rake. I honestly have no clue what having a fork made costs but I don't need any fancy lugged or filet brazed custom tubing, just a solid fork that won't be out of place on the bike.

I'm on my way to pick up an original, other than tires, 1986 Stumpjumper Team. This one is metallic black with pink decals. Pics to come later!

Not mine and out of my price range, but it's so sweet I had to post it. Check out the fork crown.

That black chrome is in seriously nice condition. Mine was a little tore up but still cool. This one has different decals and the spoke holder on the stay. Mine has the braze on to put a shoulder strap between the seat tube and top tube. Would of loved to have had the mid fork braze on feature.
Good riding bike that put you in an upright position.

I forgot to ask this when I posted it. Does anyone know how Specialized measured their mtn. bikes in this era? I measured the seat tube from center of the crank to center of the top tube and it was 16". Center of the crank to top of the seat tube is 20". What size would this be?

My $25 catch. I believe it's a '93. Pretty good condition and looks like it was garaged all it's life. No rust, hardly any scratches.
"Sadly" it's my size and I'm already overflowing with my herd.

So I picked up a pink 1985 Stumpjumper Team last week and it was mostly original but missing the XT M700 shifters, XT MC70 front brake, Specialized skewers, Tommaselli Racer brake levers and grips. The pink 85 had XT M732 thumbie shifters, Deore M454 front brake, XT M730 skewers, Suntour XC Power levers with Mushroom grips when I bought it.
While looking for the Tommaselli Racer brake levers i had another local guy contact me and offer to sell his 1986 Stumpjumper Team. It had everything I needed for my pink 85 except for the 1.5" Specialized Tri-Cross tires. Full M700 Deerhead group, HX22 wheels, Specialized Lambada S saddle, the original Specialized bars and killer "Stumpjumper" engraved stem, Specialized flag cranks and original MKS pedals.
I swapped what I needed for the pink 85 Team and now I either have a spare 86 Team parts bike, or possibly sell it. I may even use the spare original decal set I have and repaint the 86 pink like my 85.

There is a story here. This is one of the first nine Ritchey MountainBikes that launched that company. It was sold in 1979 to a San Anselmo firefighter. About eight years ago it was stolen from his garage.
I spread it around forums like this that it was missing. When someone asked in another VRC forum if this could possibly be a real Ritchey, since it had no serial number, I got the tip. It had gone on EBay, had been purchased, and was packed up and about to be shipped to Belgium when my friend and the police arrived. There was no way to identify the thief, it had passed through several hands already.
These photos were the evidence used to identify it for my friend,. The wheels were not recovered, but he gave me a $700 reward for getting it back.
This bike was ridden and ridden and ridden, and purists will not find it "period correct." The owner updated it in several areas, the Potts stem and aluminum bars, derailleur and crankset.

@Repack Rider - wow, what a great ending. Thank you for helping your friend get his bike back!
