The threads are far more important than that bit of paint.

Nice try, splitting hairs as usual in defense of a shortcut, nice and pointless.

I'm going to answer this as if you aren't being insulting.

The threads are important. What is it that you say is happening to those threads that they need to be serviced twice a year? Does the same principle apply to axle threads, water bottle bolts and stem bolts?

I put a Campy fixed cup into a Cannondale using a bench vise in 1989, and when I removed it 20 years later the grease was still green. And that was with dissimilar metals.

That has the aroma of conspiracy theorizing, unless "I understand" means it happened to you or to someone you know.

I still have a few bikes with vintage bottom brackets, but if something happened where I needed to replace the crankset, I'd also pull the bottom bracket and throw a Hollowtech II crank in there like a shot.

Bikeshops want to overhaul an old bottom bracket and not simply sell a new one?

I'm not just picking on bike shops. This is the way of the world. What's the minimum wage in your town? Here it's $20. What's the hourly labor price at a shop? $50? More?

Anyone with free time can do this simple job for the price of a spanner and 22 ball bearings.

I do.

And why is your way the "proper" way? Why not every other time? Why not every 2 years.

Is there also only one proper way to build a wheel?

Where do you get your information? Or did you decide for everyone?
