Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why is it no surprise that we finally got to this? Your trollness is showing again.

do you think I’m lying? That’s actually what I use my saddlebag to carry and there isn’t any room for bike stuff.

genejocky the workhardening isn’t a concern, it will be fine, it’s not copper.

Oh, this is a consequence of not replacing a bad tire a couple of weeks ago. This loooong story doesn’t help your reputation.

Riding the bad tire might have saved you $2.50. But it cost you a $5 tube.

You might have been lucky to repair the rim. You might not be so lucky next time.

Rather than replace a $50 tire, you risked being stranded and possibly destroying a rim.

It would have been cheaper to fix things properly than “ride broken components until they fail” (which isn’t an “ability”; it’s just dumb.).

It’s bad decisions all the way down.

What, in all your previous experience, would lead you to trust your own judgement?

Dont you go through a tire a week or something stupid like that ? You need better tires versus dumpster diving for old tires.

Pro tip: Get a larger saddle bag.

I am not going to even ask why you would be riding with a bag incapable of accommodating the basic necessities.

I mean I rode home on the flat tire and fixed the rim in less than a minute, so my lived experience tells me to trust my judgement

Yet it was your judgment that caused the problem in the first place.

No, it was just dumb luck.

It seems almost certain you didn’t expect to damage the rim at all. So, it would seem your “judgement” was objectively defective.

And, you were so certain of your “judgement”, you had to ask about it here.

No one here has suggested what you did was a good choice. I suspect everybody understood what you did would likely damage the rim.

I was merely asking how far people have ridden on a flat tire, 6.5 miles is for me a new record

There's usually space in a "fanny pack" for a spare tube, tire levers, patch kit, even a few other items. Never ridden far at all on a flat.

I was going to ask what was in the saddle bag, but I knew this was going to be the answer.

TPU tubes are small, and you can get dozens from china for a minimal amount

People here don’t do that because they don’t choose to ride on bad tires and carry tubes/patches. It’s a dumb thing to crow about. It’s just a measure of your recklessness.
