An unexpected purchase: the Daccordi Fly Frame

Good Evening

As it was the case for my Grandis and for my Cosmic Carbon wheels, I was looking on ebay for purchasing some things. Unexpectedly, I saw a frame that caught my eye from another Italian seller ,it was a rare Daccordi Fly Frame. Not many Italian bikes are actually made in the bel paese nowadays, and the majority of formerly iconic Italian brands are no longer even owned by their founding families. But Luigi Daccordi, the son of Giuseppe Daccordi who founded the company in 1937, took a different route: instead of sponsoring racing teams and moving production to the Far East, he invested in renewable energy and sustainable manufacturing processes for his factory in Tuscany and continued making bespoke frames in low volumes for discerning customers, and all Daccordi bikes are made there. Daccordi doesn't have the racing palmarès of Colnago or Pinarello, but Luigi Daccordi sees his work as fine tailoring rather than F1 engineering. The Uniblock Brazing and the craftsmanship on this frame are outstanding and this is what made me pull the trigger.A Dura Ace seat post,a red flite and full Dura Ace 7800 and Dura Ace 7800 brakes will be at the menu, wheels will be Mavic Cosmic Carbon or Ksyrium SSC

That is a hot frame! I like the Go Fast graphics and top tube is intriguing. Post pics when built!

I was seeing a number of Daccordi framesets on the interweb sales sites over the past couple-four years and these definitely had made a good impression!
But this is the first I've seen a "Fly" model.
What do you know about "Uniblok Brazing System"?
I have this notion (suspicion) it might be akin to the process that Peugeot was trying for awhile that used a shaped 'slug' or preform of brazing material inserted into the joint, with flux, and "hearth-heated" until it flowed...but just guessing. Motobecane had their own variation of the process which they called "inexternal" brazing. I believe both used hearth-brazing rather than a technician with a torch.

To answer your question, the ‘Uniblock’ brazing system is similar to fillet brazing, a fine finish without lugs.

The daccordi arrived

The finish of the fillet brazing is unbelievable, veryvery light frame,it must be an aluminium probably dedacciai custom 7003 or something veryhigh end. It is even better finished than the Cannondale CAAD5- CAAD6 frames or even a Colnago Dream . The Basso Zer made of alumnium from1998 or the Fausto Coppi Galaxy in Columbus Altec used by Polti or a De Rosa made in aluminium would be good competitors for it. I will have to buy a seat clamp and a dura ace seat post, headset will be a chris king 1 inch threadless headset.

This frame was given as a present to my bike tech because I have too many frames and since it was craked because of a lousy chris king headset in the head tube and went to repair , he will make of it his own build since he owns plenty of interesting bikes.

This is gorgeous! Daccordi is still in business and makes custom carbon and steel bikes at really good prices! And many are still hand made by the old man himself.

You are definitely a creature of habit as far as components, Georges! Shimano 7800, Gnocchi stems and Mavic Cosmos/Cosmic!

Very cool frame. Cleanly sculpted. Love the stem treatment and the carbon inlay decal is interesting.

Yes that is true but the ITM goccia stems and ITM handlebars are reserved to my steel frames, my aluminium frames will get 3T Mutant handlebars and stems exception made of the De Rosa PLanet which hasa 3T Status stem and 3T forma SL handlebar . Not only Mavic Cosmic Pro, Mavic Cosmic Carbon, Mavic Helium and also Zipp 60 and 404.For saddles Selle Italia Turbomatic, Flite or Century. Dura Ace 7800 is reliable and bullet proof , for pedals look delta and for tires continental GP 4 seasons. Finding the Daccordi front decal in yellow is impossible and having it repainted to the matching color would have been a long process. Plus running too many projects can be complicated
