3 pair - two different pedal/cleat systems. White Sidi something-or-others with Look Delta cleats for my older bikes. One pair black Sidi something-or-others from 2014 with Look Keo cleats, and a new pair a later version of the same black Sidi something-or-others that I just got to replace them before they completely fall apart.

Yung-uns now days have shoes for just about everything. Especially an active kid. There are bike shoes, soccer shoes, track shoes, basketball shoes, baseball shoes, climbing shoes, and on and on. Some are actually required by rules in order to participate and not just peer pressure for possession.
For me growing up it was Work Boots, School shoes, Sunday shoes (that turn into school shoes latter), and a pair of stinky Tenny shoes for every thing else...
That's four pair of shoes!
Most valuable for me was the Work Boots and Sunday Shoes, most of my peers had fewer...
As to the old OP: I still use Traps so a pair of simple skateboard shoes with a flat sole and stiff insole work fine. Last check 25 USD.
