Bump, partly because this was a cool thread, but also because so many people expressed an interest in trying it. So, did anyone (other than @iab) try this? I have a pair of GB half hoods that need to be reproduced, but I have enough other projects to occupy me. Someone else should make this his/her cottage industry.

FANTASTIC!!! Really appreciate the detail of your post. Here is another thread that goes into my archives for reference.
I am currently experimenting with "Flexable TPU" in my little Ender3 printer. So far things have been pretty rough but I think I may be able to get some fairly good looking parts soon.

I'll repeat my offer on this thread as well: anyone who wants a vacuum pump to do casting, and can do me some Dura Ace BL-7401 lever hoods at some point, I can get you a "retired" scientific vacuum pump for free if you send me a shipping label. So much good stuff is thrown away around here these days.

I can also try to make your GB half hoods but need to ship them to me

I had some black Galli hoods which reacted badly with David's goop, never letting it cure. I now have an orphan gum rubber Galli hood (NOS). Any interest in making a run of them?

I learned more about that. Some rubbers have sulfur content and that inhibits the curing of platinum-cure silicone, the good stuff. There are tin-cured silicones that work with the sulfur-rubber, but then the low-durometer polyurethanes used for the hoods doesn't cure well in the mold. There is a method to cure the mold to work with the polyurethane, but it still comes out a bit funky. There is a coating you can put on the sulfur-rubber to make it work with the good platinum-cure silicone, but I have never gotten it to work. So in short, your Galli hoods are a pain in the ass.

Do you think the black hoods (which caused the problems) might be different enough from the gum hoods that it would be worth trying with them? Would it be easy to test without going through the full mold creation process?

I haven't a clue. There is a test that can be done. Bring a hood at the end of April.
