Touring book recommendations?
I just read A Bike Ride: 12,000 Miles Around the World by Anne Mustoe. And I am currently reading/looking at photos of One Year on a Bike: From Amersterdam to Singapore by Martjn Doolaard.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Hungry Cyclist by Tom Kevill-Davies. "Pedalling the Americas in search of the perfect meal." He's a British cyclist who biked across North America then south to Brazil.

Frosty Wooldridge has a couple of books about his cycling adventures. "The Kickstand Chronicles" has some how-to chapters. I don't agree with much of it, but it's one take on things. It's poorly edited and reads more like a field journal. There are some fantastic adventure stories, like a grizzly vs moose story in Alaska.

This one seems interesting! (as do some of the others above - I'm just thinking of more current rides since a lot has changed with riding in the last 35 years).

I read most of it until it was due back at the library. Not my style of cycling, but that was the whole idea I think. I'm a fast reader and the fact that I didn't finish in three weeks says something. It was highly recommended by botanist friends who also bike, but haven't toured.

I have two published novels in a series (not about cycling). Up to now, I haven’t successfully combined writing with touring as it’s so easy to want to get going in the morning 
This spring I’ll be in Greece writing for a couple of months, then touring in France and Germany, where I’ll try to write in the mornings, before riding shorter days.

I thought the children's book series The Boy Who Biked the World was wonderful, capturing the wide-eyed wonder and joy of cycletouring. It's a loosely fictionalized account of Alastair Humphreys' four-year, 46000-mile ride.

I hadn't heard of this book and I'm glad you mentioned it. My library has it and I'll read it after I finish the novel I'm currently reading. I've toured in Mexico and I've also visited one of the Monarch butterfly reserves in Mexico (not during a bike tour, however). The Monarch butterfly reserve was an incredible sight. Millions of butterflies flittering around us on top of a mountain in Michoacan state. That visit was about 15 years ago and I've read that the butterfly numbers have been dropping since then.

My favorite is Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Richard and Nicholas Crane. It has been out of print for a while, but there are transcriptions floating around The Information Super Highway if you can't find a used copy.
