GT Sensor: Upgrading Rear Shock

I bought a 2012 GT Sensor 4.0. A bit on the heavy side, but I don't know any different so she rides well for me. Lots of power lost on the rear shock though when climbing due to no rear lockout. I'm debating between selling it and cutting back a few years for a craigslist Yeti full suspension, or I could replace the rear shock.

The thing is, I'm having a hell of a time finding out how to size the shock that I need and even harder of a time finding somewhere that sells online. Are rear shocks only bought at a LBS? Anyone have resources to help with this? Thanks a ton!

To replace, you need to find out the size. Measure from the center of the mounting eyelet on top and bottom. Once you have that, look at eBay and CL for shocks in that size. You can get a decent Fox RP3 with propedal these days.I would guess that in Co they are actually pretty common. Jensen USA has a Fox Float CTD for $320 right now...just depends on how much you want to spend.

EDIT: I looked up the particular shock you have...I could only find measurements on the 2011 Sensor 4.0...think its the same shock though. It is a 7.5" x 2". Take some measurements and see if they are the same.

You are awesome. Thanks so much for the help. I really appreciate it. I know a grip about vintage and new road bikes, but MTB is a whole new beast.
